As alot of you know recently got nur spec pipe and second cat removed...Really noticed performance increase...Now looking to get other cat out,FCD and boost controller..what sort of gains will I get from removing last cat?Was also going to get induction kit although after searching there seems to be mixed reviews on them...Is the above the next logical move or something else..thanks

It will be more responsive with lower EGT's , as far as the induction , i'd say it depends on how far you want to go , i have an HKS and aside from the fact that the filtration is crap it really suffers from Heat soak (i lost 30 ft lb of torque on the dyno from 1 run to another!!) if you are willing to fab a system that sits under the headlight then go for it if not stick with the stock airbox and change the element , at the very least fit a heat shield , either way they sound the dogs !!!;)

Thanks for reply Dude..I don't want too go to mad on mods so would I be better just getting decent filter rather than complete induction kit?Excuse my ignorance but thought restrictor ring was only needed if I didn't get boost controller straight away....so boost could be set at safe level..With regards to power gain will full de cat be as noticeable as the nur and first decat?Any other suggestions on basic upgrades..cheers.

The controller cannot turn down boost (by very much) but can turn up boost 100% from the natural boost level , so if you use the ring to give you a non assisted 1 or 1.2 bar you can turn it up from there , youre wastegate cannot control the boost with a full decat hence the need for a ring , the UK's dont have this Prob.

Re the induction its a personal thing , have a look in the resources section and make up your own mind on this !!!:D

CCheers Dude...see what your saying.Would you recommend another mod other than induction kit?Currently have Nur spec one cat out and HKS BOV..Really don't think I'll go for induction after doing another search on it...

Personally i think the price of induction and exhaust is a rip off , spend the saving on a better BC (Blitz SBC-ID and power meter) or some decent plugs , the next mods that you will really notice the diff. would be UK brakes and RLTC , neither are cheap but they are worth every penny and then a decent suspension set up , if you dont want to lose the ride quality try Chris wilson , everybody seems to rave about his set up , well thats £2K +++ gone let us know when youve saved up some more money !!!;)

Hi Stu, my car's the same model and years as your's and I have no cats and a Nur spec. I noticed a massive difference in torque after fitting these mods :D However the boost only ever reaches 1.1bar so you may not need a ring or boost controller. Not sure if this is because our cars are face lift models. Maybe they sort themselves out like the uk spec.

No, it seems that you have just been lucky, my facelift hit 1.45bar with the cats out and a Nur. Got a restrictor ring that sets it to 1.12bar and then the BC ups it to 1.25bar so it's all good now.

Check your intercooler, if it's falling apart it MUST be replaced, it's madness to modify an engine that hasn't got at least perfect stock intercooling. Boost gauge, then water injection. A full decat should give as much gain again, probably more, than the second pipe and aftermarket exhaust, assuming J-Spec car.

I can see abosolutely no reason for, and loads against changine either the air filter itself, or it's casing. Unless you are running very none stock turbos, or a single turbo, and aiming for 700 BHP plus, the air filter shouldn't be touched. Others will disagree. They may change their minds when their engines start burning oil and need a total rebuild at a very early mileage.depending on just WHAT they have done with their filtration set up.

I'd actually make a LOT more profit, with a lot less support issues and hassle by selling air filter kits as opposed to intercooler upgrades or WI kits. There is a good reason why I have NEVER, EVER sold an air filter kit without making it abundantly clear it's against my better judgement.

Thanks for reply Chris...as I am not going to be spending thousands on mods just wondered if it was worth my while going full de cat or leave it as is with one out and nur spec pipe?Must admit most of what I have found on searching has gone against induction unless really going to town on engine..Can you or anyone suggest anything else for that "quick fix" or have I done it...Can I do anything else for good power gain now without going to mad...thanks in advance:)

Best mod now is one of my custom VVTi front cat replacement pipes (the VVti uses a different first cat form to the earlier J-Spec and UK cars). The VVti really comes alive with both the cats out and a free flow exhaust. I suggest you also get a boost gauge though, you MUST monitor boost once you mod a turbo engine.

You should then consider water injection, it works very well on these engines.

Stu, leave the induction alone, and go for a change in filter on the stock air box. I've read the apexi panel filter is good, .

Why not go for the K&N replacement filter for the stock airbox

Re-useable (washable etc)
