hogmaw
Does having the aircon on affect performance much? Like how much? It's tempting to have it on in this weather, but I dunno it it uses up any kind of significant amount of extra petrol or power etc
jamesmark
Yes it uses power and extra fuel, are you going to notice the difference? from day to day driving your not gonna really notice any difference what so ever. My soops A/C dont work but have had cars with it and the only time I noticedthe difference was when the A/C switched on as I was powering away even then it was no big deal. Unless your a power hungry person its pretty pointeless worrying about it mate.

SupraStar 3000
Just don't have a dyno done and forget to turn the aircon off!
outatime
I was thinking about this, does having the aircon on use more fuel than drag caused by opening the windows? Supra aircon turns off at WOT, IIRC.
jamesmark
It makes me smile how we drive TT's (some N/A) and we are worried about fuel from the air con system and drag, that just tickled me a bit
outatime
I was thinking about this, does having the aircon on use more fuel than drag caused by opening the windows? Apparently not: "Having the Aircon ON in a modern car, uses LESS fuel than having all the windows open, which creates drag. And while it is true that you should always keep your windows closed for it to work at its most efficient......remember that you gotta blow air through air vants and ducts inside your dash board that are HOT AS AN OVEN..... So first thing you do, is switch on the Aircon, OPEN the windows, blow it flat-out for 30 seconds, THEN close the windows." Although, another site says it is about the same? supRo
I thought I read on here that on full load the AC is not used on a TT? So you don't have to worry about turning it off on a Dyno for example????
Bobbeh
The car was still tested and produced its 320 odd bph with systems running.. so I doubt it'll make the blindest bit of different apart from using a little more fuel
hogmaw
Aircon switched ON then! V. important in this weather 'PHEW'
jamesmark
With my air con not working I still don't drive with the window down because then i don't here anything else going wrong with the car lol
letmeshowyou
the aircon does disengage at WOT, so wouldnt make any difference to peak power on a dyno run... dunno about anyone else, but mine uses noticably more fuel with the air con on!
Guest dee_rz
about to take my air con unit off, don't use it enough so don't care for it that much and also have you seen how much it gets in the way of the rad think removing it should help airflow and keep temps down even more and decrease weight a fair bit also, i'm going to leave the belt where it is though and just take the rest off and before anyone says it yes i know that the belt is the part that will decrease paralistic drag which will net me about an extra 2-6bhp maybe (at a guess some say way more but i will not hassard a guess )
