:)

Sorry to post here; sound section gets less views.

Have now got Sony Ice working after buying new battery for hand set - great!

Would you believe it now the aerial is shagged; it wont drive up or down. The motor is running as normal.

Am I right in assuming there is a drive belt of some kind; btw it worked fine yesterday!! If so where can you get em?

This is in the right place it is technical. These do go from time to time, check out MKIV.com for a fix, if a good WD40 soak does not fix it. They really need cleaning regularly at this time of year. When I remember I wipe mine with a bit of kitchen towel slightly dampened with WD40 once a week

Sure; but the radio still works fine.

Actually I quite like the grinding noise it makes; do you think its causing any damage hahaha

Also Ive looked on MK1V.com and Im buggered if I can find the repair details??

you should not put oil on the aerial

the dirt will stick to this and when the aerial retracks takes the dirt in with it

then all the bits of oil and dirt jam up the mechanism inside.

just wipe the aerial with a clean dry cloth

the grinding noise is probably the gears inside not meshing properly

yep it sounds stuffed

The correct way to clean an electrical aerial mast is with some kind of spirit and a cloth. The cleaning motion MUST always be in an upward direction, so that you don't push dirt into the different sections.

They do need lubrication from time to time. Do as I've suggested above first if possible, then repeat with a lubricating oil, run the aerial up and down a few times, then repeat with spirit to remove the excess oil.

/Anorak off :innocent:

Matt

Thanks for the advice.

Am I missing something here; let me explain.

The aerial motor is running but the aerial itself does not move and appears not to be connected to anything; is that normal.

It is clean but just pulls out if I take the lock nut off; thats not right is it?

Im stupid....

If you take the ariel motor cover off you will see if the toothed belt is snapped that connects the ariel to the motor. If its broke a replacement is £27 from toyota, feed it back in and bingo!!!!:)

Did mine a month or so ago, as i had the same problem.

Now this is why I like Toyota. There's a bit that fails, and is the *only* bit that needs changing to make the whole unit work again, so Toyota make it available, on its own, for a reasonable price, make it user replacable, and let you know how to change it.

Someone like Nissan would force you to buy a whole new unit, at vast expense, and at the waste of a collection of perfectly good components due to one simple element failing.
