Boost Controller - Which one?

I like all the Blitz ones. The DSBC Type R is as good (functionally) as the SBC-ID just doesn't have the flash display, and is quite a bit cheaper.

Take about 3 hours to install. Easy enough to setup.

Apexi ones, nice display, but the solenoid ain't a patch on the Blitz.

HKS are good too, more pricey though.

Gaz.

BTW I sure there was a big thread on this just last week or 2.

Bleed valves don't get confused by the sequential twin turbo operation, they are cheaper, more reliable, don't clutter up an interior with no obvious places for gizmos with things that look like a bit fallen off a kids Nova, they are set in a couple of minutes and don't clutter the engine bay with wiring.

I have yet to see an electronic boost controller with a boost level display anything like as easy to read as a decent analogue dial, and decent boost gauges start around 32 quid, so 32 + 35 = 67 quid, a big difference to circa 300 plus fitting and VAT.

I am now often to be found removing electronic boost controllers in order to fit a bleed valve, with the customer reporting loss of flat spots and just as good boost control...

Is a bleed valve adjustable in the car? I didnt think so...

Also, can a bleed valve be used to sort out boost creep, or should one be used along with a restrictor ring to cope with it?

I've never been too sure about what a boost controller can and cannot do w.r.t boost creep and now throwing this bleed valve thing into the mix has just completely confused me :)

A bleed valve can be easily made to be in car adjustable. Quite why anyone would want to adjust boost once set I am not sure, it always seems a bit unnecessary to me.

A lot of people can't get bleed valves to control boost properly, this is nearly always because they haven't grasped the airflow concepts involved and is easiliy worked around to make them stable and capable of holding high RPM boost.

Well, as a boost controller or bleed valve can only RAISE the boost the only options are restrict the exhaust (restrictor ring) or enlarge the wastegate port (expensive, may not even be possible to enlarge enough).

Chris, how much would changes in weather effect the bleed?

The restrictor is now such that most of the time it runs around 1.05/1.1 occasional 1.15, but Mon night in the cold and fog I hit a fraction short of 1.2. If the bleed was set to say 1.15 would it creep higher in the cold?

On a more positive note for EBC's, they often allow multiple settings, give peak hold read outs ( I have yet to see a cheap boost gauge that will to this), some can data log, and the Blitz ones control boost extremely well.

The blitz SBC-ID does have a good control mechanism plus the other features mentioned - it looks great and has loads of other toys to play with if you fit the powermeter!

Oh - and yes it controls boost!

The only thing missing from your post Chris

'Bah - humbag,...now when I were a lad we 'ad none a' this new fangled stuff - used to live int shoebox int middle a road'!

:p

It does cost more than a bleed valve however - probably something to do with the man hours of design and production!

Hi guys,

please help with this one.

I fitted a manual boost controler to the right pipe, but doesnt seem any boost increase (10-11psi), and I have everything stock with an induction kit, can I get up to say 14 psi at all?

thanks.
