yeh thats what i was thinking. there not the type of comany that goes round sacking peaple and i think its more of a case that she was in a foul mood that day. Just makes you think when you start hearing the word sack thrown around

I would just go up to her and say you overheard someone say she was trying to get you in the sack, and see what reaction you get.....

(Start a different rumour - then claim for unfair dismissal because you rejected her advances .....)

I havent read all the posts...so sorry if this has been said...

First thing i'd do is phone up the suppliers and check to see if they have been paid already...should be the first thing you do...then just simply file them! if there are no overdue letters then I dont know what the problems are..

Or maybe shes trying to get a friend a job by stitching you up...i'd just get in a bit early and phone a few accounts depts and check up with them, not sure how many invoices there are but thats the best way surely...thus getting rid of the evidence...end of lol.

Is your boss allowed to look in your desk drawer? What was she looking for anyway? Does she regularly check workmates desks? Something seems fishy to me.

That's what i was gonna say! Just make sure you know all your procedures inside out so they don't think you're incompetent, like say that you know that this invoice should be here for this reason etc. Would be unfair to sack you over that!

This has probably been answered but being lazy and not wishing to trawl through it all, I will ask again:

1. How many is "a load" of invoices?

2. Why did you stuff them away?

TBH, your get out of "it doesnt matter as they would have sent copies" would not work if I was your boss. I would be concerned as to why you didnt do this part of your job properly and what else you may not have done properly.

:yeahthat:

..but the fact remains, why is she going around telling people she's 'going to sack you' and why is she going through your draws...?! sounds very odd...

but I would get the invoices in order before she says anything.. count this 'rumour' as a tip off and GET IT SORTED!! :)

I agree with fox, if your contract describes this sort of mistake as GROSS misconduct, you can be escorted off the premises there and then. If is MINOR then its a verbal warning, and MAJOR a written warning.

Invoices go in files i thought? did you put them in the drawer cause you couldnt find the punch and forget about them?.

Sit down with her and ask what the problem is - don't just take hearsay as is.

Take the initiative and ask her if 'WE' have a problem and ask what the problem is - then you will know what you need to address.

Sounds to me like she was just having a bad day - women boss's get them every month!!! - past experience!

No, seriously - talk to her see what the issues are, you probably are fretting over absolutely nothing.

Get your house in order and watch your back from now on, 39 women around you? how the hell do you cope with that?

Shouldn't worry about it mate do you realise how hard it is to sack someone these days ???. If she hasn't discussed it with you in the past and has no written notes (signed by yourself) then she has not given you an oppurtunity to resolve the issue.

I agree Ian, unless it's gross misconduct and in this case it looks far from that or your up to some sort of fidddle, then there are proceedures to follow.

Wait and see what happens and if they don't follow proceedure then keep cool and sue the bastards.

I can't see it turning into anything though but I have to say it's a poor way to manage IMO, maybe she could put in for the next series of 'The Apprentice' :D

They can't legally sack you wihtout some kind of reprimand first - having a few old invoices in your drawer hardly counts as gross misconduct - as you rightly say the invoices would simply have been followed up with letters of demands or similar.

I'd say chill out and wait til next week; you never know, she might be on the blob this week :)

:edit: BTW, her telling your work-mates she is 'going to sack you' IS misconduct in her position; discussing your employment details with anyone other than somebody of equal or higher standing is an absolute no-no.

Sounds like a case for employment tribunal. If she had any issues with you as an employee, apart from her superiors you should be the first to hear about it either from HR or her directly, verbally or in writing. Have you got another whitness who heard the other work colleague telling you this? There must be people who work in HR on here who can offer advice.
