Not sure what I am looking for

Hey Guys,

I am going to look at a 93 N/A Manual this weekend, I was just wondering if anyone had any tips as to what to look for? (My apolgies if this has been covered but i searched and found nothing) I don't want to think I have covered everything to then find out that I paid too much etc.

Also, i f i could be so cheeky as to ask, any idea what it would be worth?

Like I say, its a 93 N/A Manual, 74K Miles, it has a HKS Exhaust, 18" Khan alloys, K&N Filter and apparantly has a full toyota service history.

When I rang the owner, he said that the only bad point was that one of the alloys was slightly kerbed.

Thanks in advance guys,

Dale

Hmm welcome to the club.

Well to start with the NA naturally does not have the concern of the Turbo's being damaged.

Look for the normal things like signs of a leaking head gasket (mayonnaise under oil filler cap) Discoloured coolant.

In my experience the NA engine is a little noisy when cold, but should be really quiet when running, with the bonnet closed, you should only just hear the engine running.

Make sure all the switches work, when you sit in the car, and you turn the key to start, the warning lights should come on, but the ones on the right are problematic, with dry solder joints, so that can be a point of getting some money off.

Check the inner edges of the tyres as larger wheels and lowering suspension, often means that the car has had its geometry neglected - this is another point for getting money off!

On the test drive, back sure you ride over an uneven surface and check how the car handles it, if its all over the place, your track rod ends and bushes could be worn, which can be expensive to replace.

Have a good look around the rear diff and make sure that there is no visible signs of seepage, as this is a PITA job to do (but not expensive).

TBH the Supra is a really solid piece of engineering and just as long as the owner has used fully synthetic oil and replaced it every 3-4000 miles, I think you will have no problems!

Any other questions, please let us know!

:welcome: Dale, have a read of [thread=23259]THIS THREAD[/thread] in the FAQ section for pointers on what to look for. I would take someone experienced in auto mechanics or ideally an existing Supra owner with you. You never know, there may be a member local to the car, that could go with you to look it over if you ask.

Can't help you with value, but check the auto trader website and classifieds adds in here to gauge what other similar spec cars are being advertised at, it is a buyers market out there at the moment as the UK has been flooded with imports from what I understand, so be patient and you will find a nice example at the right price.

And thanks for making me feel welcome guys. (A rare thing on forum sites these days)

Hopefully I will soon have a Supra to put pictures of on here.
