Supragal
What does that actually mean on a V5 and can you find out more details? The and/or bit doesn't make sense to me. You wouldn't "suitably repair" a vehicle if it wasn't damaged?!!? Does it mean the extent of the damage was substantial to the value of the car? On some chart somewhere thats non-car non-value specific?
Supragal
No-one know?! Not even Class One?
GetawayDriver
It probably means the extent of the damage was substantial to the value of the car in the eyes of the insurance company using book value, not an agreed/real world value. If it has it on the log book then the VIC (Vehicle Identity Check) has already been done. this is new legislation to stop cut and shut jobs. 3-4k worth of damage on a supra with a book price of 8k could easily write it off in the eyes of the insurance company, especially with a relatively low book price and high cost of parts. In reality it might only cost 2k to repair and be worth 12k, no where near a write off in the eyes of the owner or market, but the insurance company won't care. they write it off and the owner is left with a crappy low payout and a V5 with recorded damage/repair. welcome to my world. You can't really find much out unless you can contact the previous owner who did the repair work or it was HPI recorded. Even if it was, the infomation is usually very limited. Previous owner is the only to get good info in my opinion, i did a full photo rebuild as i knew the V5 prob was looming, not that i'd ever sell her... Supragal
So who informs the DVLA? And I still don't get the and/or bit?!
GetawayDriver
the insurance company tell the DVLA. it's just legal speak that lets the statement cover lots of different scenarios.
Class One
Shows up as a V23 marker on the PNC/DVLA database. Means its been involved in a heavy smack but been suitably repaired by ins co.
