hi all - need a bit advice. recently, when manouvering around at low speeds ie. carpark etc, the steering has sort of locked up and the steering becomes harder to turn. it doesn't happen all the time and i've checked whether it happened exclusively on cold starts (in the morning or after having parked up for a while) but it isn't the case as it happens when i have been driving for a while as well...

on a side note - my aerotop rubbers (roof n cabin bits) are perishing so does anyone know how much new ones are ? i was thinking of replacing all the rubbers around the car.:(

also, how much are replacement auto gear levers n steering wheels ? or is refurbishing them possible ?

Could be the Speedo Converter being a bit funny at LOW speeds, causing the signal to the progressive power steering to see a HIGH speed signal (in error) and stiffen up the steering.

Converters are difficult to design at low speeds, (

Does the effect last long?

hi pete - no it doesn't so i sometimes wonder if have been imagining this ... :(

you know how like when you turn the wheel to get out of a space and when the wheel doesn't turn easily, you do a double-take and try again but this time it works easily ? thats the kind of thing.

IIRC - it does seem tremendously stiff, far stiffer than i would have thought the loading on the steering feel that WOT brings about. then again, my speed sensitive steering has been buggered since i took delivery of the car (i think)

is this easy to fix ? i know, i know - typical stupid question but i'm worried that this might happen at a more inopportune moment!

right - did a bit of testing today on the way home and it seems that it is happening a bit more often now ... it goes really stiff n heavy then back to normal. it seems to be happening at a dead rest only though ... :(

any further thoughts ? don't think it's the speedo converter as i've got a top-of-the-range pete betts jobbie (shameless plug i know:innocent: ):)

PAS pumps are beginning to pack up, and I have seen one rack that was faulty. Could be either, you need a pressure guage on the pump outlet to isolate which, for sure.
