MatH discussed an AFC and new pump. Good idea I liked that. But the next spend on her should be what? Safty, speed, engine mod protection what? All ears. Roy Posted September 19, 2003 Share Posted September 19, 2003 depending on the dosh you want to put out 1) brakes + ss lines/fluid 2) boost controller 3) an afc 4) an egt gauge imo... always safety first. yourself, then engine ... then comes the fun! err, reliability too should come somewhere in there .. ie plan each mod stage, then get used to it, then next ... all the while ensuring engine/drivetrain/suspension all doing ok. maybe a bit pedantic but just my 2p Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Matt Harwood Posted September 20, 2003 Share Posted September 20, 2003 *Some decent gauges, so you can see whats happening... *New fuel pump & FSE, 'cause the one you have is old and can't keep up with 1.2, let alone 1.3 bar... *S-AFC to assist the above in making sure the fuelling's alright + a couple of hours at THOR to set it up... *New intercooler, either a CW side mount or decent FMIC *UK Brakes, you do need to be able to stop... *RLTC, to assist you in avoiding armco's in future *Suspension, to ease the back pain! *Neon removal kit *Single turbo, massive injectors, high lift cams, stand alone ecu, totally new and uprated fuel system, new pistons, new rods, head work.. *Bank loan/re-mortgage None of those are in any particular order.... [which, by coincidence is approx the cost of complete UK brakes ? ! ? ! ] IF you're NOT gonna use the 1.3 Bar... AT ALL... then Brakes. IF you ARE gonna use the 1.3......... FUEL PUMP ! ! ! ! FatS. I RECKON, most likely cause was running very lean. It was 6,000-6,500 revs @ ~150/155 MILES per hour (OFF road ! ! ! !) I think the Crappy-Jappy pump couldn't supply what the ECU was tryin' to inject ?! PLUS, VERY VERY hot day / fairly poor con' I/C etc etc. (...................plus, I could/possibly/maybe have turned the boost up to ~1.4/1.5......JUST POSSIBLY you understand....by ACCIDENT ! ) TOO hot, TOO lean, BYE BYE Aluminium (and spark plug tips!) SAFC nice but not essential at that stage. Then if you cant afford UK brakes, Chris Wilson does some superb pads which will transform J spec brakes, if a little noisey. AND, supposed to be quicker at responding to high demands... ie. if Jap reg' is ~35psi then you set FSE to ~40 AND it still rises quicker.... only about £100, BUT, it needs setting up with a Pressure Guage (next-ish on me list.......) FPR/FSE 3. PHR Fuel Pressure Pulsation Dampener Bypass 4. bigger injectors PHR Fuel Pressure Pulsation Dampener Bypass. A must-have for all BPU Supras, the PHR Bypass consists of a large #6 Stainless Steel Braided hose with metric fittings to route from the factory fuel filter to the rear of the factory fuel rail. Installation is a breeze: 1) remove the factory rubber fuel line at the fuel filter using a 17mm wrench, 2) install the supplied metric fitting into the fuel filter while reusing factory crush washers, 3) attach the straight end of the #6 line to the metric fitting, 4) remove the factory fuel line at the rear of the fuel rail using a 17mm wrench and move it aside, 5) install supplied metric fitting into fuel rail while reusing the factory crush washer, 6) attach the 90 degree end of the #6 line, 7) tighten all fittings and check for leaks, and you are done! This completely bypasses the OEM pulsation dampener unit, a severe restriction in the factory fuel system. Installation of this unit allows you to maximize the factory fuel system with less risk of a lean condition. A must have for any Supra! Can also be supplied with an inline adapter to mount any electronic fuel pressure gauge sensor. I would leave the static at the same pressure as stock, but you can increas it if you are short on fuel. The PHR Fuel Pulsation mod is just a bit of -6 braided hose. It will just allow you to fine tune the fueling whilst on boost with the FSE ( the FSE will act EXACTLY like stock FPR whilst off boost). You might make a little more power with it. Sounds like SAFC is a waste right now. I am also looking for an exhaust gauge. I here CW is great at this. Anyone - Geeza forgot sorry - know how much to fit said item, I just need the guage right and CW would do the rest. Also - Terry - is it worth getting my first CAT removed? Still in and backing off 1.32 bar, butting running 1.2 norm and .9 for work? errr £cost to fit EGT and items required - I like this upgrade thing!
