Black box top right corner of the engine bay

I remember a 'hot-rodder' on SupraForums who just binned it and blocked the pipes.

Then he had weird fuelling problems, which were cleared when someone explained to him that the fuel tank 'equalisation' is done via this canister.

Not dramatic, as fitting a little filter can remedy this, but I found it funny how easily people ditch/modify bits without having a fecken clue about how they fit in the overall picture.

They see themselves as Hardcore Performance Enthusiasts, lol....

exactly!

You don't chuck out and 'modify' things that you don't know what they do!

First you walk, *then* you run.

But some 'hardcore' fellars start the other way round. Like all newbies' obsession with dump valves, too much brainpower has been spent on something as useless as this.

  • 2 weeks later...

Was just watching a 1991 episode of Topgear where they were talking about charcoal canisters as devices that absorb Benzene thats let loose from the engine bay (due to breathing of the fuel tank) at the time of filling your car up at a petrol station.

Benzene being carcinoagic (spelling), some cars implemented these devices in order to reduce the amount of this gas let out by cars.

You've got it wrong mate.:yu:

What I'm saying is THINK before you 'upgrade' because if you don't have a feckin clue of what a part does (and how it fits in the general balance of the design) you are likely to make things worse.

Knowledge is horsepower, while blind faith to commercial ad claims only makes other people richer (at your expense)
