can anybody recommend me a new broadband isp?

im currently with plusnet but there usage limits are starting to get on my nerves now - i been with zen but they were quite expensive

im looking for 2mb connection - unlimited downloads. Im not looking to spend more than £22 a month. I looked at demon but i have to cancel my current subscription then take out a new one, which means i will be without internet access for a while

any recommendations - i cant get cable were i live which rules out NTL

i changed from BT and moved over to Bulldog.

BT was 2mbit and a monthly cap for around 27UK a month.

Bulldog atm is 1Mbit until i get upgraded to 8Mbit this month, costs 21.50 for unlimited bandwidth.

you do need to change to their phone service but its no different from BT, just a bill from Bulldog instead. you pay the same as BT line rental.

check out http://www.bulldogdsl.com

i normally use 300 - 400GB a month in bandwidth so bulldog is ideal.

pipex seemed to be having problems recently, so avoided them.

if your looking for the fastest bt based isp then look no further than eclipse it dont win awards for nothing

its the first isp to do flex broadband where you pay for 256mb and at the click of the button you can flex right up to 2mb and i think that comes in at £17.99 or maybe cheaper and flexing up cost around 14p an hour for the top 2mb its cheaper for 1mb and 512 so quite a bonus you dont need to pay for fast internet all the time as you dont need 2mb to check your e mails or go on the supra forum

it also does not block any ports as in msn messenger web cams, strwaming video all ports are unblocked, another first for bt based isp's. it also has the fastest transatlantic speed for all .com sites

and the best bit about eclipse is ...............its a monthly contract so your not tied down to a 12 month contract like all other isp's, so if your skint then you just dont pay and call up when your not skint without penalty

I'd normally pimp PlusNet with a link that earns me 50p a month per person who signs up with them but in summary they now suck donkey balls and I wouldn't wish them on anyone.

If they improve look out for a banner ad ;)

What's up with them? I've just signed up to their 14.99 mb service. Fulfills my needs no problem.

download limits they use are a crap - plus they dont tell you that they exist when you sign up as its supposed to be unlimted. apart from that they are great cant fault it, at the mo its between bulldog and toucan (bt based for both) cheers for the help guys

If you used my referal link they are great, if you didn't I'm in a sulk with them over their port shaping to slow down my play on Battlefield 2 (a fault on their part which they have fixed but I hold a grudge ;))

Anyone know of any ISP's that in effect take over the line from BT?

At my previous address BT said I could only get 512. Due to a mistake in an order it was opened up to 2mbit. And this worked fine.

Now I am at a different address and been with BT for 12+ months now, they are still saying I can only get 512 when the exchange is not far away at all.

Just wondering if there are companys which take the line over from BT and not just rent it. Told Tiscalli does something like this?

You are talking about LLU (Local loop unbundling) This is not on all exchanges but you can tell who has been as they are able to get Over 2Mb and up to 12 Mb.

All Copper transfers are through BT at present, all Traffic has to go through BT at some point!

If its outright speed you're after then NTL can *sometimes* be good - it really depends where you are. The 10mb packages gives me constant 1.1mb/s download rates from sites that can handle it, I use about 60gb/month download and 10gb/month upload and not had any restrictions from NTL yet. I was massively over the supposed restriction limits with the previous 3mb service but was never contacted by NTL about it...

Reliability has been superb, however since they moved it to India their tech support is now worthless.
