Overdrive is simply the name of the 4th. So with it is turned off you'll never shift into 4th gear. The other 3 gears will not use any more fuel than they would have used if the overdrive was turned on. However, at the point when the car would have changed into 4th your fuel consumpution will obviously go up cause it's stuck in third doing much higher revs. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

SUPRALOOPY Posted January 15, 2006 Share Posted January 15, 2006 i'v found that with o/d off your revs stay higher as its not dropping into 4th at low speeds. so i would presume you would use more fuel as your revs stay higher. If it improves it by 10 percent (which is unlikely) that's an extra 2mpg....WOW big deal.
