hi,

i have just had the worse day of my life.... and now im taht f**ked off i have to quit for today.

i changed my head unit everything went fine untill ...

everything worked fine ... clock heaters etc untill i started putting it all back in then noticed that the clock was not illuminating... then noticed the heater controls where illuminated (apart from the twisty fan control and heat which didnt illuminate) but did not function when buttons where pressed... and just to top it all off when i tested the ciggy lighter it didnt work.

i checked and rechecked and took the dash to bits 3 more times but still no luck... i have checked the fuses but they seem fine...

im really stuck please help if you can :(

a very unhappy...

I am sure that the fuse is located in the drivers footwell, it is well hidden and you need a neck like an ostrich to see it!

This is the time that you ought to check in the main fuse box (under the bonnet) to see if you have a white, fuse puller, otherwise its a PITA to get at he other fuses.

Sure the heater and clock circuit is one of the very middle fuses of the middle row.

Did you have to cut any wires on the stereo adaptor or was it just a straight fit?

I had a similar problem on a micra the other week and I'd used the illumination wire which obviously affects all the lights on the dash incorrectly which had blown a fuse, when I put a new fuse in it went again. Problem solved by sorting my little wiring error and then replacing the fuse again.

Join the club mate, Ive been without all the bits you mentioned for ages now, and can find a damn thing wrong anywhere.

Whats this about the hazard thingy? My switch aint long been replaced.

Def fuse mate did the same. in my car there is a random plug that fits into my hazards socket that blows it! check that and check footwell fuses again! :D

if i had the wrong thing plugged into the hazards it wouldnt coomplete the circuit.... would it?

Dont think you can plug the wrong lead into the back of the hazard switch. If you did the indicators wouldnt work anyway.

Thats correct, if you do plug the wrong one in (may only be a stupid uk thing) then the indicators will not work!

when did yours stop working? after a headunit install?

I put a panasonic indash tv and dvd player in the slot and it was fine for ages. Went to light a fag one day with the cigar lighter, pushed the thing in and then nothing. Changed the hazard switch since then cos that was buggered, checked it all, put it back together, and still nothing. To be honest Ive been driving around all winter with no bloody heating cos I cant be assed to keep taking the dash off and bending like Harry Hoodini to get at bits which Im sure aint broken. I dont know what to do. Anyone think of anything else we might try?

Hi Charlie, sorry to hear this,

let me know if I can help at all. Not that I'm an expert, but have had my dash off a couple of times with no bother, and have changed the stereo too.
