JamesG
As Imi says, Samsung LCDs are very good for the price. The 26" one that meets your criteria is the LE26R41BD. I have the 32" version of this and it's excellent.
imi
Heres a pic of my Samsung......Its a 32, they do an excellent 26 version of this as well. Need I say more.... http://www.zen26392.zen.co.uk/Fallowgate/LCDTV.jpg

terawua
while I am racking brains....... this is the kind of look I like.... much more pleasing to the eye then the bottom mounted speakers.... http://ws1.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=SAGE-HDL27 however has no HDMI this one does, but has undermounted speakers... all about the style.... http://ws1.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=SHAR-LC26GD7E
terawua
*edited*.. re read your first thread! or this.... http://www.electricshop.com/invt/4066tos114816a&source=kelkoo would probably be best to pick a budget then see what you can get. As you say, true HDTV ready (i.e. HDMI) is the way to go as Sky will be going digital next year - I have a problem though, as my one grand av amp is soon to be obsolete as it lacks HDMI connectivity, so I am going to have to sell it to upgrade for HDMI compatible av amp.... Mate, you sound as you're in the know on this kind of stuff.... I'm looking to buy an LCD TV in the next couple of months when our new house is ready. What is all this HDTV / HDMI thing? How essential is it to have it? I don't want to spend a grand on a TV to find out it'll be obsolete or lacking connection options a few years down the line. terawua
HDTV - high definition TV... already up and running in the USA and Japan, as they had that c**py NTSC TV standard (less lines than the UK PAL) anyway -over there its really caught on I guess that americans can gawp at the cheerleaders on game day in more detail. HDMI - High defintion multimedia interface - basically a connection strandard that has been adopted to transmit video and audio in one cable - most stuff is now appearing in this format and I pretty sure you will see this on the back of the new Sky Digibox at least I hope it is as I have just specced a load of kit for my mate with this - however I have never used it myself. Basically if your DVD, AMP and TV all have HDMI then you should be future proofish. Dont worry if your DVD doesnt have HDMI, as most decent amps now upsample and convert to HDMI so you can keep a decent (i.e. component progressive scan) DVD blimey, hope that makes sense, quite a long post. I should point out that I am only into this as a hobby, so if yo are spending serious dosh, then I would always ask a professional (someone who is a member of CEDIA). If you are into all things techie, the I could recommend Smartlife basically a grown up's version of 'stuff' magazine - I get mine from the Aeroplane on trips
terawua
Oh and a lot of TV's say HD ready, but they dont have the HDMI connector so worth a check, though having said that are adaptors to make the HDMI connect to a DVI or other connector. Essentially all HD is is a minimum screen resolution 1024 x 720 or something like that - I didnt really bother to check the exact specs, but they will be availavble. In fact have a look at this link... quite well written http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/hdtv1.htm
imi
best have a look on avforums.com to figure out what your actually looking for from a LCD TV, Looks, HDTV ready, RGB Scarts, Budget, Brand, Picture and sound Quality, Contrast, Surround, Pip, etc....etc and then go with the TV that ticks all the right boxes.... thats what I did
Conrad
Mate, that's more than enough for me! Thanks So am I right in thinking that if a TV is HDTV ready they have a HDMI socket on the back of it? I've noticed loads of DVD players that have HDMI but not so many TV's that mention it. Basically can I assume a HDTV ready TV can be connected to a DVD player with HDMI? If that made any sense whatsoever...... PS - Sorry for the thread hijack!

carl0s
A lot of the HDTV stuff I have seen doesn't have the HDMI. Some of the more expensive (Panasonic Viera 32" £1749 LCD) stuff does. There is a very nice Philips 26" Digital Freeview LCD which looks the bollocks. No HDMI though I don't think, although it is HDTV ready. This is the one here. Currys/Comet actually had it in at about £699 when I looked last week. It really is an awesome TV. I had one but sold it to my sister because I needed the cash. Best telly of that size I'd ever seen and I couldn't imagine wanting anything other than that to replace it.. imi
The only Phillips one that I'd consider would be te 9986 with pixel plus 2 OR Wait until Apr / May for the new line of Phillips LCDs.

carl0s
I saw a non-HDTV set with HDMI the other day. It was one of the Sharp 37" Aquos range. The panel resolution was only 960xsomething, but it had HDMI so I presume it would downscale a HD image received through the HDMI connector. It was advertised as "HDTV Compatible".
