GazzaGSi Posted January 2, 2006 Author Share Posted January 2, 2006 After the mechanic and I had been testing various things under the bonnet we have come to the conclusion the culprit was the Rotar arm! Absolutely burnt to a crisp. Which would be why the car has had the symptoms it has. When it was runnning roughly the rotar arm must not of been connecting with all the tips in the dizzy cap, And come to think of it when it was running poorly it sounded like the leads were connected incorrectly which I can only assume would be when the rotar wasnt connecting properly. This is the only thing we come across that was bad, all earhting points etc and the battery are fine - so fingers crossed this is the problem. Attached are some pics of the worn rotar. GazzaGSi Posted January 2, 2006 Author Share Posted January 2, 2006 we cleaned up the dizzy tips and they seem ok. thats what i thought too about the ecu reset but at the minute im game to try anything. GazzaGSi Posted January 2, 2006 Author Share Posted January 2, 2006 yes i did, i started it this morning and did it and the car seemed fine. touch wood, the car has been runnning fine all day - did not make the problem while the mechanic was here, grrr. Probably around 5 - 6 hrs driving time and no cut outs Thanks for everyones help and suggestions and if anything untoward happens, I will let you know.
