Brakes from an mk3

Recommended Posts

Hey hey all,

I was just wondering if somebody could give me some information.. I have (well am just about to..) bought a TT mk4 Supra. Sitting in my drive rotting slowly away is the mk3 Supra that happened to blow its engine on me last week.

Is it possible to grab the brakes etc off it, and put it onto the mk4? It has bigger brakes than the j-spec TT I'm buying, just wondering if it should all just swap without a problem.

Can anybody think of anything that might be worth salvaging from an mk3? Does anybody want a mk3 with knackered crank shaft and some rust around the wheel arches, perfect inside?

Thanks :)

Welcome Pulse,

I've never heard of anyone here doing the brake swap you propose, and there have been plenty of discussions on the small j-spec brakes your future car has and the improvements/upgrades available.

It may be possible, i don't know but if they are significantly bigger calipers then you may run into standard wheel clearances issues even if the calipers happen to bolt straight on.

Probably will be more hassle than its worth, as you can significantly improve the small MKiV brakes with non standard pads.

They'll be nothing worth keeping on the mkiii for your mkiv, unless of course you want to cut and shut the front end onto the mkiv :D i dont think the brakes are transferable as otherwise us mkiii guys would be putting the uk spec mkiv brakes on.

Welcome to the board Pulse - good bunch of people on here and well worth the £!0 membership payment if you are going to get a supra.

Any pics of the beast ? when does she arrive ?

Hiya :)

She arrives tomorrow night, when I meet Marc (see Supra's for sale, J-spec in recentish posts) in Guildford and pick up the keys :)

Saw his ad on here with it for sale, test drove on the weekend.. rest is history :)

I'm going to donate the 10 quid, I signed up for a nochex account today so I'll be doing that tomorrow. Reading through the posts, seems like there's some sound (and likewise insane:)) people 'round these parts, and I look forward to joining the mk4 owners club tomorrow :)

Cheers :)
