Andrew
Can I remove this brace? Reason I ask is my exhaust is resting against it and vibrating. Was bearable before, but now it's getting on my nerves Just worried that it might be structural.
Digsy
I don't remember seeing one of those. Anyone else got one?
Guest Terry S
Is it a prop safety hoop. Looks pretty serious
Andrew
This is not actually my Soop, but one from MKIV.com, my brace is very similar. Here's a different one http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/exhaust/hks_carbonti/DSC02481.jpg
Guest Martin F
I wouldn't remove it. Looking at where it is, I guess it provides quite a reasonable amount of strengthening.
Andrew
I thought that Martin, looks like I'll have to find another way to get the pipe from resting on it.
Guest Terry S
Nah take it off, I'll have it;)
Andrew
So you haven't got one either then Terry? If it's safe to take off you can have it

Guest Terry S
Ah you know how to hurt a man. I may have one & never noticed.
Simon
Looks like the external equivalent of an internal brace that fits just in front of the rear seats and full width. I can't remember where I've seen it though.
Guest Terry S
I checked Andrew & it does have one mate, so I think you are stuck with it mate.

Terminator
It looks like an after market version of a stock item. IMHO it is there to give stability at the end of the transmission tunnel. Take it off at your peril.
ChrisR
The brace in the picture is the one that comes with all Apexi N1 systems, just replaces the stock one EDIT: Just re-read your post, in mine there is a fair bit of clearance. Does the car still have the Apexi N1 fitted or a different exhaust, if dirrefent perhaps thats why it now catches.
UltraFlynn
Sounds like you need a stock item to replace the after-market one.
Andrew
Thanks everyone. I think mine is stock so will have to find an aftermarket one, like you say pod9160, but round the other way The one in the picture actually looks slimer than the stock one I have, just need to find out what one it is. Edit: The exhaust in that picture is an Apexi
Guest Martin F
A lot of the bracing and strengthening is different between aerotops and fixed roof cars. Maybe the picture is from an aerotop.
Simon
i can't seem to find it on the EPC system for '93 cars, what year is the car perhaps it was a later fitment. It would be more likely that this is probably fitted to AET cars than hardtops. Any help in finding the OEM part would be appreciated.
Andrew
This is a stock brace like mine. Can't tell if the car is an aero. http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/exhaust/apexi_n1/fit2.jpg

Correct, they supply a beefier looking brace than the stock pressed tin one, mainly to increase claearance. The Apexi systems are always a bitch to make clear the chassis and yet not hang so low as to always be grounding out. It will add a bit of torsional rigidity to the tunnel area, but, to be honest, if it were my car, and the choice was rattling or binning the brace, the brace would go. If you get someone to furtle about with the exhaust hanger brackets you might solve the rattling AND keep the brace. BTW, I have a couple of these braces in stock, a system came with 4 in the box
Andrew
The exhaust I have is the HKS hiper. I had a look at lowering exhaust hanger brackets, but then realised my car sits low to the ground and would give me clearance problems. How much for one of those braces then Chris? Chris Wilson
Ones gone already, so same price, 15 quid, the postage on the other was 3.50. So that's 18.50 total. E-mail me if you want it, it's brand new.
