Kevin Huntley Posted June 17, 2003 Share Posted June 17, 2003 Hi guys just spoke to the local toyota dealer about my car and its emmisions problem and they say they have tested every sensor other than the "Turbo pressure sensor" as they need a vacumm gauge which they have not got and they can't test the "fuel pressure" as they ain't got the tools. Whats the chances of one of these items being to blame for the high CO & HC should I take the risk and just buy new component parts? What kind of garage are they if they work on turbo cars but don't have a vac pump or a FP gauge they could tee in? Maybe you should try a specialist tuner near you. I would then seriously consider trying to recover your costs from the warranty company due to incompetence of their recommended\approved garage. Paul Laing Posted June 17, 2003 Share Posted June 17, 2003 Hi Kevin a lad on Supraforums.com had a similar problem with a car running rich. they said it could be the VPC sensor. He tryed to get his tonque around payment and I have basically told him where to go! What he is trying to say is the warrenty company only pays him for the faulty part and the time to swap it out and not the diagnosis time! Well I tell you for one I am not paying him a penny, he has only being working on the car around other work he's had booked in so its not as though the mechanic had jobs do to anyway! If he had fixed it I would of quite willingly paid him a contribution to his overheads but I feel let down by the so called main dealer! Between me and my girlfriends MR2 the garage has had about 2k's worth of business this year and if he wants any future business he can "go whistle" for payment. Infact the way I am feeling with the ongoing stress this situation is causing me and problems and pressure from work he just mentions payment when I get up there I am likly to really loose my rag:flame Dev and it takes a lot for me to do this as I normaly quite a calm person! but I am on the edge at the mo! The one next to mine are complete monkeys, havn't got a clue, nobodys got any knowledge of Supras and apparently they have to handbooks or anything like that on the car. And there supposed to be Toyota specialists........mmmmmm Plus they have no stock in because at the end of the year there not gonna be a Toyota dealer......No parts in stock??? No indicators or anything. CRAP!!!! Plus how do they justify £60 an hour labour, thats just stupid money when the mechanic still gets £10 an hour or something... Kevin Huntley Posted July 6, 2003 Author Share Posted July 6, 2003 Hi Everyone, sorry I have not reported back sooner as I know everyone is keen to the problem and probable cause but I was really busy at work on Friday and I had the marathon trip down to Chris on Saturday which turned out to be a 10 hour round trip by rail and road! First off I would like to thank Chris Wilson for his efforts and putting his reputation on the line to solve this long running problem. Right the problem was Ignition feed to the ECU which had been severed and was down to two strands of wire, this was causing the ECU to receive less voltage than the 12 volts necessary to operate. As the ECU has no way of flagging up a light for this problem it could not be detected by Toyotas diagnostic equipment. As the ECU was not getting the correct power it was not performing correctly which resulted in the emmisions problem. The probale cause appears to be through the wire been probed to test it for one reason or another which is normaly fine to do with care but someone was obviously been a bit enthusiast when probeing this wire resulting in the said damage. To my knowledge the only to times the wire could of been tested in my ownership has been when I had a problem with the active spoiler not deploying and the car spent 5 days at a Toyota dealer and they told me at the time they had a specialist in checking the ECU or when I got my RLTC unit fitted at the turn of year. I was naturaly quite annoyed when I got off the phone to Chris that someone elses mistake had caused me so much heartache and hassle and I decided to inform the Autoelectrician who fitted my RLTC of the problem. To be honest he is a well qualified and genuinly nice honest guy who has done a lot of work for me over many years. I informed him of the probable cause and in his defence he said if I brought the car in to him and it turns out to be a wire he probed he would look into claiming on his insurance! So just to conclude I would like to thank everyone for there help and advice over this difficult period of Supra ownership!
