supra dan
after a search i found that there should be bubbles in a sight glass? is this glass at in front of rad with a tap marked H on it? i cant see anything at all in it. does it need a recharge? Simon
Yes that's the sight glass. You won't always see bubbles, I don't and my system is working. You should run it on a regular basis anyway, yes even in winter, so that the system remains operational. Especially the compressor. It may need re-charging. Do your engine revs go up when you switch the A/C? if not then the compressor probably isn't working. If they do rise, then it will probably need a recharge. Terminator
Please move to technical Hold the air con auto and fresh air /recycle buttons at the same time while you turn on the first stage igniton, all the lights on the system will flash, let go and see which lights flash if any. This will give you an error code, post your results. We can take it from there.

Paul Laing
mines doing this aswell. When i press on the air con it doesn't work very good, well hardly at all. But the revs go up quite a bit. How do you fix this? What does holding the buttons when starting up do? Paul

Simon
And where in hell did that marvellous piece of diagnostic information come from. Anymore wonderful bits of education please?
Paul Laing
just done mine and all the buttons flashed 3 times before the front screen one stayed on by itself. What does this mean if anything?? Paul

I will check again at home.
Simon
Terminator, oh font of all knowledge, did the test and the front screen flashes continously. Any ideas pse? Also, where did you get this information from and are you willing to pass it on?
Terminator
The info comes from a Toyota manual. Cant remember if I got it from MKIV.com or somewhere else. PM me your e-mail address and I will lob a copy to you tonight, as the files are at home.

Terminator
Originally posted by Thorin Mine does the same. The solar sensor needs a lot of light, i.e. bright sunlight. I just checked mine at 19.00, light cloud and I got the flashing front screen/demist symbol. Shone a torch on it and Auto flashes, signifying system normal. Terminator
Originally posted by supra dan terminator, did you get a chance to check my fault code was abnormal pressure? Your two codes indicate, fist low light;; shine a light on the dash sensor and that should eliminate that code. The outside/fresh air light signifies a number of faults , but the first thing to have checked is your fluid pressure.

Paul Laing
tried mine earlier on, my revs go up when A/C button is pressed on. No cold air comes through hardly. Well no Air con anyway. When the buttons were pressed as you said they all flashed then only the auto ones. What does this mean great Terminator?
Terminator
Hmmmm, tough one, as the diagnostics have not picked up a fault. I would guess the fluid pressure may be near the lower limit, but high enough for the compressor to kick in, but cooling low so not really noticeable in today’s temps Try setting all the controls to max air flow and lowest temp. Run the engine at 2000rpm and watch the sight glass for a while, you should get bubbles which clear after 30 seconds. Then do the diagnostics again. If it shows no fault codes it is probably worth getting a gas pressure test done anyway. Edit: The system has a operating pressure range of 455psi down to 28psi so I guess at the low end cooling is minimal.
