suprasport
just noticed timing belt seems loose can almost pull it off the 2 top pulleys is this right? belt looks fine and car runs ok does the tensioner kick in when engine running or is the slack about right? Jake
No the tensioner should maintain tension at all timers. Sounds like your cambelt is much too loose. My was like that when the idler pulley arm had snapped http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/4900/p10100717yt.th.jpg
suprasport
was going to change the belt but been reading about it being a non interference engine, (jap n/a) and could do without the extra work at mo, but if thats the case then i have no choice. is it easy to spot or check anything without stripping it down? hard to describe how loose it is, probably 10 to 15mm dip between pulleys and i think at a push i could slide it off (maybe)
Jake
Oh, it's an NA. (Sigs are good! ) I'm not sure about the tensioner arrangement for those. I don't know if they're different to the TT

Are you saying that the NA and TT (6spd) have the same tensioner? From what I have heard the NA and TT (6spd) are different. Maybe the auto TT and NA's are the same. Maybe the auto TT and NA's are the same. The type of Gearbox will make no difference at all this is engine based E.g JZA-80 for mine and errhhh the other one yes the guy at toyota (Jakes contact) confirmed to me which were the same on both the NA + TT engines and these were confirmed as the same part by him, with the same part no. We went through the whole list of parts i needed
Whitesupraboy2
my price list at work!! but belt is £19.50 from CJ's contact at toyota and the cambelt tensioner is only £17.00 from partco as i can remember that!
