maxaerott
ive been over my car now.the battery is good and turning over strongly. its now trying to start all the coil pack are working but theres only a spark on the plugs every 1 to 2 seconds. its showing fault code 12. any ideas ive been told it could be the ignitor pack or crank sensor. where is the crank sensor and is it hard to change. Thanks
Chris Wilson
At cranking speed you would EXPECT a single plug to only fire about once a second or so.
Ian C
Error code 12 is crank position sensor... It's at the front lower left (turbo side) of the engine. Nasty to get at. -Ian
maxaerott
hi ian so does fault code 12 just show that it is a fault with the crank posistion sensor. couild this be whats causing the problems? Cheers
maxaerott
is there a way to test if the crank sensor has gone what should the resistence be on it.
Chris Wilson
Oscilloscope on it may help, but you really need to compare the output against a known good one. Swapping it for a good/ new one is probablyb the most practical test!
maxaerott
will do that but does anyone know what it should be or could someone test it for me? PLEASE ?
Digsy
Chis, you should have traces of good crank sensor waveforms. We tested yours, remember? Yes, you do need an oscillascope.
Ian C
I've seen the waveform but I can't recall where I saw it. Found this though: 1) Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect all sensor connectors. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between sensor terminals. See G1, G2, NE SENSOR RESISTANCE table. If any resistance reading is not as specified, replace suspect sensor. If all resistance readings are as specified, go to next step. G1, G2, NE SENSOR RESISTANCE TABLE Application ........................................Ohms CMP Sensor Cold Sensor ......................................... 835-1400 Hot Sensor ......................................... 1060-1645 CKP Sensor Cold Sensor ......................................... 835-1400 Hot Sensor ......................................... 1060-1645 (1) - Cold temperature is 14-122F (-10-50C). Hot temperature is 122-212F (50-100C). And a piccy of it's location, see attached. -Ian
maxaerott
thanks so much everyone especially Ian:respekt: ill try that tonight and ill let you know how i get on. ive been quoted £104 inc vat for the sensor from toyota wakefield any ideas where i could get one cheaper? Ian C
I very much doubt you'll get one cheaper anywhere, worth asking CJ though, he has some sort of deal going -Ian
Chris Wilson
That's actually a very reasonable price these days. Even ABS sensors cost more than that for common or garden things.
maxaerott
oh thats good then at least i know that the nearest toyota dealer are fairly priced ill check them things and take it from there ill check you all updated. Max
maxaerott
hi ive checked the crank sensor and the restitnce is 1285ohms so it looks likle the igniotor pack what do you lot think? thanks for the diagrams ian.
