Bit of moan..

We have employed a disabled bloke full time in the offices for over 10 years. He had been living in a council house with his ill mother until she died aged 90 a couple of weeks ago.

Within 3 days of her death, he had received a letter from the council saying he would have to pay full rent as a sole occupier of the house. He can't afford to do this, so phoned the council to have a moan.

After finally getting through to the right person, he was told in no uncertain terms told his that if he stopped working, his house would be paid for by the taxpayer and he would receive additional benefits. He doesn't want to quit but is being forced down this route by the local council.

It is pathetic, are there not enough people on benefits already without forcing those who actually want to work on to the dole through some cock-eyed benefits system? He is writing to the MP about it, but I don't hold out much hope.

This kind of thing seems to be happening more and more, it makes me wonder why we bother sometimes.

Just the way it is I guess! Real shame though, especially as he wants to work!

I used to work as a trainee at the local Jobcentre. I used to issue the Giros to people with no fixed address like Gypo's and tramps or people who prefered to collect their Giro (probably couldn't wait the extra day it took in the post!)

We used to get this one guy who came every week to collect his Giro for £392. He of course was getting other benefits too like his rent and council tax paid. He got that amount because he was claiming for his wife and countless children - you get extra for each child.

He was a right smarmy twat and it really grated me he was getting 8 times my £45 a week trainee wage for doing sod all. He was on more than my manager.

But, as much as I despised him could you really blame him or his wife for not getting a job? If they both worked they'd have to pay their rent and tax and get nowhere near as much on minimun wage.

The system sucks!

That doesn't shock me.

My girlfriend is a dispensary manager, loads of young single mums where she works have cottoned onto the fact that they get more benefits if their kids have ADD. They all come to the doctors saying exactly the same thing, get their ritalin (or whatever it is now) and then the extra money. Ker-ching.

Another bloke who works for us on a decent wage has quit doing overtime on a saturday as it affects his child tax credits or something.

Brilliant system eh?

This countries gone mad. As stated already for some people the difference between them getting a job or staying on benefits and staying home all day looking after there kids is a couple of pounds a week so they don't bother. Although isn't it called jobseekers allowance so if they get a job interview they act totally dumb to ensure they don't get the job lol.
