_Rob_
I know, i know, this topic has come up many times before! ive been doing searches and reading up but i am still a little confused. im thinking of an FMIC but am not sure which to get, i will be fitting it myself and it will more than likely be part of Nics group buy. my car is a 94 UK TT auto. Engine is stock apart from Nur spec exhaust and HKS SSQV BOV. near future plans are de-cat, plugs, FCD, up boost at 1.2bar, id like about 400 bhp. reccomnded FMIC's for this kind of set up on stock twins seems to be the greddy 2 row or HKS s-type. how ever people still seem to be buying 3 rows and the r type. will the smaller FMIC be sufficient for my setup and plans? or should i get the HKS r-type while im getting one? if the smaller one is ok, would anyone reccomend the greddy over the HKS? or vice versa. cheers guys! Lucifer
Chris Wilson on here sells an uprated side mount which is best for your application. If you intend going much over that you will need a front mount. If you are an auto you will need a new fan also so adding to the cost and labour time. Greddy are a good bang for the buck. suprarob
hi Rob I ,ve gone with the Chris Wilson smic just fitted it this week end its a good easy fit but you will have to persuade Chris to get some more made I think I bought his last one What you have to remember is with the fmic you loose your active spoiler
Jake
If you are an auto you will need a new fan also Why's that? What fan are you referring to? Thanks (Can you tell I've ordered a FMIC for my Auto? )

Lucifer
Ok..... If you are an auto with a FMIC you have to remove the Stock electric fan (trust me you have to!) - This is the big one in the cage that sits infront of the AC rad. Now you have 2 options here. 1. Run stock ish power and dont ever use the AC on a hot day. 2. Run BPU+++ and the Aircon but buy a SPAL slimline fan. - 2 if you can stretch to it. You will see the fan I am refereing to in one of my pictures in my upgrade project. Even if your Cooling system is 100% , which lets face it prob not the case on our millage cars... you will still need this fan in the Summer. The reason for this is that a FMIC restrict airflow to the Radiator, the fan helps it on its way. £70 and a bit of fabing or a cooked engine...... As part of that upgrade I also Suggest buying a TRD STAT. Martin
Chris Wilson
4 more SMIC's are in build, due to demand having suddenly risen again (And the fact someone VERY kidly let me sell "his" SMIC to someone who was desperate to get his car back in action after an accident...). Steve
Wasnt Dudes car running 650hp ish on a Greddy 2 row FMIC? So dont think there is a issue of it being too small!
_Rob_
So is the general feeling to go with a CW SMIC? i hadnt even considered these. what sort of price are these from Chris? ive not seen that about the fan before, do you mean the large fan to back of the rad? hmm, decisions! could anyone tel me the dimensions of the CW SMIC as compaerd to the stock sidemount? Steve
Think the dimensions are the same just has a thicker core. Could be wrong though
Graham S
if its anything i made 404 bhp on just decat and exhaust! but i'm manual!
Chris Wilson
Info on my SMIC's below. thanks. Is your intercooler falling apart, the fins corroded off the tubes? If so, its efficiency will be extremely degraded. Running more boost than stock? Is this a good idea? NO! It's not even a good idea running STOCK boost with an I/C like that, and when the weather struggles above freezing it will be a VERY BAD idea! Don't want to spend over 1400 quid on a new quality front mount intercooler, only to have half of it masked by the aperture in the front stock bumper being too small to allow air through all the core? Even with a new aftermarket bumper that probably fits where it touches, (from what I have seen of most Jap products), the air will just take the easy route AROUND the expensive FMIC, rather than through it, because no ducting provision is made. The answer is my uprated, all aluminium stock mount intercooler. It uses all original mountings, and the original factory sealed ducting. It uses a state of the art core with fine pitched finning, on modern tubes with internal turbulators. The core uses 10% more tubes than the stock unit, too. The quality of its construction is superb, and all are fully leak tested under pressure before despatch. Pressure drop, both internally through the core, and aerodynamically, are less than the stock cores, making for a very efficient unit. Pics of the intercooler are now available at: http://www.formula3.freeserve.co.uk/intercooler/intercooler.zip or http://www.formula3.freeserve.co.uk/intercooler/intercooler.html They will sell for 610 pounds, there is no VAT to pay. Postage and packing to UK mainland addresses is 12.50, the package is bulky due to their fragile nature.
Lucifer
Chris, I would be veru interested for you to say weather is would support a single turbo application up to say around 6-700 with supporting mods or would you say 3-4row FM? Cheers. PS**** If you are only BPU GO WITH CHRIS'S!!

Martin or get yourself down to the local scrap yard with a big hammer and smash the f**k out of old cars (its great) and pick up up a bargain for £2, i think this came out of a nissan sunny, to be fair i think you can run the air con with no probs just dont expect freezing air when stuck in a traffic jam at 90 degrees

Ian C
Ahhh, so *that's* what that fan is for. I saw one once and thought it was an aftermarket cheapo bolt on because it looks so un-OEM! Then I saw it on another Supra and thought "wtf?" which is why I was interested in this - I figured you had the answer to what this fan is for... Still can't believe it's stock, it looks shite. Sharpie
So, my stock UK car back in 2003 never had a fan ? I thought the rad you can see through the vent is the AC rad ?
Lucifer
So, my stock UK car back in 2003 never had a fan ? I thought the rad you can see through the vent is the AC rad ? Its a secondary fan which operates all teh time the ac is on, but sometimes if the car is hot. Interesting your UK one does not have one... another difference maybe? Sharpie
No, I think this is where my understanding of "how many rad's" the car has and in which order they are presented in falls short....... Below it the UK AC rad from EPC. I'd like to be corrected here so, jump in The AC rad sits infront of the Water Rad right ? I *thought* that there was a smaller fan for the AC which, was below and to the left of the viscous (sp?) fan - looking from the drivers seat which, has it's own part of the "main" shroud for protection too ?? HOWEVER - If you are saying that there is a fan infront of the AC rad, then does this mean there is a 3rd rad ? what is the rad you can see through the vent (mouth) in the pic above then ?
