Guest Bazrazmataz
Hi Can anyone give me the run down on how u use the manual mode button and what the difference is between this and just shifting through launch etc ?
Steve W
It 'locks' the auto box in L (1st) 2 or 3. sort of gives you MANUAL control of the box so you can HOLD it in a gear - normally to stop it changing up. YES if you FLOOR it as you would on a drag strip then there's very little in it really, because it's a SPORTS auto box and doesn't change up till ~6,500 ANYWAY ! ! ! ! I find the best use is when you want it to stay in a lower gear but with PART throttle ie. keep it in lower gear WITHOUT using the kick-down..... errrrr... such as..... THRU DARTFORD TUNNEL ! ! ! Steve W
It makes a LOVELY sound if you select "2" in MANU mode and rev UP to around 4,000 t0 5,000 and then take your foot OFF and coast.... instead of changing UP as it normally would ('cos it knows you want to 'coast') it stays in "2" and DRAGS down the revs - and, MAKES A LURVLY NOISE Very much like revving UP in a manual in second and just taking yer foot off. ? ? ? In reality, i also find it better to keep BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL ?? (a BIG advantage on a TT is you can prevent it changing DOWN when you least expect it - say on a slippery corner - when it may raise the revs just enough to kick the second turbo in ! ! ! OOOOOOOOOPS, bin there, done that :thumbdown )
Steve W
SORRY, just saw your OTHER thread about the L-2-D in non-MANU... If you just push thru L-2-D-OD you are restricting the MAXIMUM gear the box can use, but it can still change DOWN (see that piccie thing) L = 1 2 = 1/2 D = 1/2/3 OD = 1/2/3/4 MANU: L = 1 2 = 2 3 = 3 the MANU has those MINOR 'uses' i said before but to simply push it thru the gears is a bit pointless 'cos as i said it's a SPORTS box. TRY it from the 'lights'..... just floor the throttle and HOLD IT THERE it will rev right up to near the red before it changes up ! ! SO, how can you 'better' that ?????? [ i'm sure the MANU-fans will disagree just MY opinion ]

Lazarus
The only time I feel the need to use the Manu function is to get a fast down change for over taking instead of waiting for the kick down.
Steve W
Once you push the button (the MANU light should light in the dash) then the stick is "what gear you're in" ?!?!? so if you're in D and you push the MANU it will STAY in "3" (that is unless you're going TOO slow when i BELIEVE the Box overides you and drops it down a gear anyway) if you move the stick to 2 you change down to 2 (or UP to 2 ???) Steve W
The only time I feel the need to use the Manu function is to get a fast down change for over taking instead of waiting for the kick down. exactly, you can MAKE it change down WITHOUT full throttle. carl0s
exactly, you can MAKE it change down WITHOUT full throttle. but moving the selector down to 2 or turning overdrive off does this. The MANU button just makes the gearbox stay in whatever you have selected. The 1-2-D is a limiter - it won't go to a higher gear, but can/will kick-down. Manu makes it stay in whatever is selected, except that from a standstill the car will not set off in 3rd, it'll use 2nd then change up to third when revs allow.
