T.T. Diff - Prop-Flange Info

T.T. Diff Prop-Flange

This is the most frustrating component to source for a Hybrid conversion and folks that break T.T. diffs  throw them away. :looney:

I have a Wanted Ad permanently running to try and unearth these Rocking-Horse droppings for Hybrid builds.

If you hear of a T.T. diff that's on it's way out, :amen: please save it's flange. :slap:

Recycle here

With a small cold-chisel and hammer, carefully open the nut-lock as has been done here, take care not to split it

With the handbrake on, use a 35mm spanner and undo the nut.

Tip: A deep-socket and wrecking-bar or air-spanner is fine to undo it, however, a swan-neck ring-spanner will allow you to see the marks during reassembly.

Remove flange, fitting a new oil seal is good idea, fit alternative flange and steadily do the nut back up to EXACTLY where it was before.

Re-lock the nut.

There are crush-washers beneath this assembly and it is ESSENTIAL these are not compressed any more.

Note: The nut may be tight to undo, don't let this mislead you to over-tighten during reassembly.

Get this simple little job wrong and you WILL kill the diff.

Tip: To prevent oil leaking past the splines, clean both male and female with brake cleaner and assemble with RTV on the female splines only.

T.T. diff prop-flange and Aristo transmission prop-flange are both size 'B' donut flanges.

These flanges have different part numbers, yet are suspiciously similar components?

If you ever get the chance to remember to think to find out, please let us know?
