Pixelfill
far, This might be of some use seems there are some issues with the SiS chipset, I haven't read it all the way through but there are some XP drivers available for USB2 at the tail end of the page. hope this helps Mike
Digsy
My mate went through the same thing recenty. Accrding to the blurb on the web SP2 seems to cause more issues with USB2 than it solves. He fixed it by unplugging the card and re installing it. WIndows seemed to install thr drivers properly the secnd time for some reason. Also, apparently there is a physical difference between USB 1 and 2 cabes. Its never caused me an issue (I was running USB 2 ports under XP SP1 without even reaslising it) but my mate definatey has to use a different cable for his USB2 devices. The SiS 7001 is USB1.1 I'm afraid. USB2.0 controllers are generally identified as "Enhanced" in device manager. You should be able to pick up a PCI USB2.0 controller for under a tenner though. If you are defo sure I will phone the feckers up and ask what they are doing! hmm. unless Windows XP is misidentifying the USB chip? It's highly unlikely that a new computer wouldn't have USB2.. In device-manager, properties on the USB controller, there's a 'Details' tab (SP2 only), change the drop-down box to "Hardware Id and tell us what the PCI VENor and DEVice id's are. carl0s
I've done some googling for ya and there are lots of people who are expecting their 7001's to be USB2 (but finding them not working as such), but also some apparent USB2 drivers for the 7001, so it looks like I might be wrong and that it's just a driver problem, which *might* be sorted with newer drivers, which *might* be on http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com , or you could try those on here
