Need4Speed
Being a j-spec owner I've never really thought about this until asked a couple of days ago, but what function does the bonnet scoop on the UK car perform?
Thorin
It lets air go in through a big hole in the bonnet. Sorry couldn't resist.
lovatt
i think it was put on the UK car because of the auto barn, the scoop lets cold air flow over the turbos when travelling at high speeds for long distances

Ok I'll leave now.

I have a vision of a farm building travelling down the road.... Or did you mean Autobahn??
Need4Speed
GavinL So it's essential kit for M25 traffic then. Thanks for all the instant replies. In a nutshell it looks nice but isn't vital. It did puzzle me because it's nowhere near the intercooler, air intake or radiator, so what was it ductng air to.

ad500
So fitting an aftermarket bonnet (Bomex or whatever)with all the differently placed air vents on the sides etc would have no ill effects. Provided air gets in somewhere i guess???
Need4Speed
I think the Bomex bonnet is suppoesed to take hot air out from behind the radiator, but I could be wrong.
Bobbeh
So.. it channels cold air onto/around the center of the engine. Strange why they didnt fit it to US spec Supras considering someo f the hot weather they have out there.
Need4Speed
Bobbeh - call me cynical, but I suspect it's a styling issue.
Bobbeh
Well, I'd have thought the same, but then I saw the metalwork under the bonnet scoop that channels the air in the area past the engine, its deffo there for a reason, and if it was just a styling issue, surely the US market would have had them?! It directs the flow at the turbo's, not the engine. Couple of sodding great big NACA ducts should do the trick Getting the air in is ok but don't you just build up pressure in the engine bay? This may mean that you're best to have a radiator heat realease in the bonnet ALA the Veilside, TRD, Bomex, Abflug etc vents before you pile more air in???
