mikeyb10supra
Rant coming Ive now been looking for a new job for the past 2 months with no luck......now I know the regular approach is, fill out application form + cover letter and send off to company re the position your after Now most of the job searching is done over the net, where you apply on-line. I know there are a few recruitment consultants or ex recruitment consultants on this forum, so I wondered if they could shed some light?? is this a quite time of yr for job hunters......will it pick up again and am I doing this the correct way, because I seem to not be getting much feedback from anyone. I find that after applying online the consultant in charge...if interested in you will usually call you in to register with there agency which is good news....but im not even getting this far at the mo Any tips on optimising my chances because its vexing me to the limit at the moment and I need to get out of my current position asap Rant over Mikey
penguin
make sure your cv is accurate , to the point and most importantly, its "tailored" to the position your after.... touch wood, ANY job i've ever applied for i got!
how_supra
Make sure your CV is only limited to two pages and also details a little about your job skills - like key positions of responsibility and demonstrates awareness in the role you are applying for. Make it personal for the job as Penguin said. I also include a short and to the point cover letter with my cv as well and it seems to reel people in. When I was looking for a job in February I registered my details on total jobs, within two weeks I had an offer for another job. Otherwise keep at it, and it will be okay

Keep the CV short (2 to 3 pages) and too the point, try to avoid too much use of management "buzz" words, and ALWAYS tailor it to the position you are applying for. Covering letter is good but again keep it short and tailor it to the position/company you are applying too. Do some research on the company, particularly their image and 'mission statement', though mostly Bull this can help with the covering letter and in the job interview, shows you have done your homework Darryl (ex-IT recruitment consultant )

Homer
If its for an arts teacher then that might work, if its for a technical / engineering type position then forget it!

Do some research on the company, particularly their image and 'mission statement', though mostly Bull this can help with the covering letter and in the job interview, shows you have done your homework Darryl (ex-IT recruitment consultant ) Also after I listed my cv and covering letter on Total jobs I received this email: "Dear Sabrina As MD of an electronics company I see a huge number of CVs sent to me by agencies and from totaljobs.com. Most CVs that I receive are of no interest. But very occasionally, as in your case, I get a CV that is really outstanding - but just doesn't fit the job I'm trying to fill. I'm looking for a Sales Account Manager - Electronics; you don't fill my job spec but I want to encourage you in your job search. You've got a great CV, really well written and with obvious passion for supply chain management. I particularly liked the bullet point icons in your covering letter - quirky and original. Good luck in your job hunting and I wish we had a job for you Charles Lovatt MA, MBA, FCIM ceo AbleOutsource md LI Components Ltd PS - Small tip for you to improve presentation - put cut down Education stuff at the back and replace it with a personal mission statement Best Wishes Charles Lovatt"
