2jz single turbo not starting :-(

Hi,

To get you in the picture, I have a mk2 escort that I am putting a 2jz single turbo engine, gear box, running gear and shocks in, I'm at the stage of fitting everything on for a dry run, but it won't start :-(

I found that the fuel pump wasnt getting power, the fuel pump ecu is getting power but no power out to the pump, I've hooked the pump up to the ignition but I've now found there is no spark.

I found that there is a short wire on the passenger kick panel that is not plugged in, it is a plug with a blue/red wire and a white/black wire, its plugged into the junction box but the other end is not, can anyone tell me where it goes please? these wires are also the same coloured wires that go to the fuel pump ecu and fuel pump. there is another brown wired plug thats on the same short harness but I'm sure thats for the heater and its not needed on my car.

any help would be great,

thanks,

phil.

It doesn't really but it will be useful in the future thanks very much :-) the fuel ecu I'm talking about is located on the left of the boot,

I'm sure my problem is the plug I mentioned, anyone know where it goes? You can see it here.

Thanks,

Mate is you fuel pump ecu mounted and up the correct way, long shot but I know they have a switch in them which cut the power in the event of a crash, so maybe depending on how that switch works if the ecu is upside down, it may think the car is on its roof if you know what I mean.

Also another thing if its an auto engine ecu(main ecu) it needs to have the neutral selector switch signal

Now then the fuel ecu is just laying down in the boot, good call mellonman, thanks, I'll check it tomorrow and update this thread, hopefully i won't need to find out about that plug in the passengers kick panel ;-)

Oh and it's a manual box, so it has to be the upside down fuel ecu,

Thanks,

Phil.

The fuel ecu has no inertia switch, you can mount any which way you like. As far as I know there's no inertia switch at all on any MKIV's. I think the neutral switch only controls the starter solenoid energising current. Are the ECU loom grounds connected under the intake manifold? Is the engine management light working? If not it's a good chance that it is lacking ECU to engine / chassis grounds. Is there 5V at the sensors?

To make sure I went out and checked, I have a ground with 2 white/black wires under the inlet along with 2 other black earths on the same bolt, the engine light is on too, so I'm guessing its earthed ok?

When the ignition is switched on I get a click (on then off i think) from 1 of the 2 black relays together on the drivers side in the engine bay, is that right?

And finally chris can you tell me where the black plug with the blue/red and white/black wires in the picture goes pleeeeeeease :-D

That would be great, thanks very much, I think the brown wires were for the heater so what ever it was for, it was close to the blower, I don't know If it was a relay attached to the heater that the plug came off, I'll get it sorted one day :-)

Just found this on supraforums

Chris im sure that the ecu does have some inertia switch as when doing the 12v mod everyone was on about still keeping the fuel pump ecu for that reason I will search

All up and running nicely, in the end it was the pump only priming on turn over (I was listening for prime on ignition) and earth under the inlet that was hidden (thanks CHRIS WILSON) and the distributor wires not on correctly, sounds sweet now :-)

No need to find where them pesky wires go, thanks for all the suggestions, I'll be back soon to show you my progress ;-)

Thanks again everyone,

Phil.

I am glad you have it sorted, electrically these transplants can be a PITA. Sorry I never got photos, things have been hectic here getting my next door neighbours Lexus to give heater output and stopping it dumping its transmission fluid on the road. Jobs I was not expecting but thatIi felt obliged to fit in.

Hey no worries, sounds like you got your hands full, like i said, thanks very much, I would never found that earth under the inlet, I'm going to forget them wires now, there abviously not needed to start it, here's a little vid for ya, and remember the body work is next :-D
