Mike Posted August 28, 2005 Share Posted August 28, 2005 Well if it works on motion, surely the suspension of the car, and/or the way it's driven would come into play? the softer the suspension the less motion it would get? either that or it's inherently 'not very accurate'..? Homer Posted August 28, 2005 Share Posted August 28, 2005 No mate, you misunderstand, most accelerometers record g-force in all planes so can measure acceleration (duh!) VERY accurately. The direct acceleration measurements (0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile, etc) are highly accurate, its the 'bhp' figure that some give that should be taken with a bucket of salt. JohnA Posted August 29, 2005 Share Posted August 29, 2005 Don't know how accurate the GForce is, but my accellerometer is very accurate. you can do 0-60, 40-100, 1/4mile, standing km etc and get very accurate and repeatable figures. you can also get max hp at the wheel during each run, as well as max G-force etc. For hp figures you need to do some extra measurements on a flat surface to calculate the rolling resistance and aerodynamic resistance. You also need total weight of course. Very useful if you want to see whether your 'mods' have actually made the car any faster. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

JohnA Posted August 29, 2005 Share Posted August 29, 2005 Indeed. You need to have access to an 'available' stretch of straight, flat road though. You also get just max power figures, not a torque curve like with a dyno. Airflow through the radiators and engine bay is 100% realistic, and engine load is 100% compared to a dyno. On the negative side, it is only viable on dry days, and you have to do ambient temp adjustments yourself. But it's practically free once you start using the gizmo, and it waaaay more accurate than the 'seat of pants' dyno. Which is pants. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
