He means the 5 speed will not hold the power for long before it goes bang.

If anything you would be better suited with an R154.

 

Hmm OK, well it is short term. With all the tunnel work etc it shouldn't be too hard to move to another box.

 

The R154 is from a MKIII isn't it?

 

Whats the 6sp box from a MKIV called? Getrag?

Yes the V160 is the 6 speed box. Will set you back a few grand for a second hand one but the internals have been known to handle stupid power.

 

There's a few on here that have ran the 5 speed W58 and are still running it, harsh gear changes and dropping down gears harshly will kill it.

The R154 gearbox best suited to fitting to a MKIV Supra is to be found in late model Soarers & Chasers.

 

The reasons being the gearbox will come with the correct bell-housing, gearstick cradle, speed sensor and, in the case of a R154 taken from a Soarer, front section of prop shaft.
