antno Posted December 1, 2012 Share Posted December 1, 2012 hi just wondering if a tt diff needs cooling and oil squirted on the pinion for track work. i guess it would be a nice thing to do but has anyone had pinion failure or excessive wear due to the oil breaking down. i suspect if you were competing in a endurance race it would be needed. just wondered why they only fitted oil pumps to the uk tt diffs? has any one got any pictures inside the uk tt diff? just want to see if it directs oil to the pinion head. cheers antno Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

SteveC Posted December 1, 2012 Share Posted December 1, 2012 I'm sure that I read somewhere, that diff coolers were fitted to the UK/Euro Supras because the German Autobahns didn't have a speed limit. Based on that, then I guess Toyota considered it a necessary addition when the diff was under continuous high speed load. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Chris Wilson Posted December 2, 2012 Share Posted December 2, 2012 Not needed for 20 odd minute track sessions, decent oil will cope fine. Just added weight and complexity. 24 hour endurance racer would be a different kettle of fish of course. If worried add a Thermax temp strip on the diff casing and see how hot it gets.
