scott87
Sorry if the title lured you in Been out for a drive and when i got out of the car it smelt hot, if that makes sense. I know my mr2 used to run super hot but do Supra's too? I wasn't really booting it, and ive just had a coolant change and the temp needle stays bang in the mid range.... scott87
Yeah under bonnet temps get very very hot!! It is a big straight 6 Ok thanks. I think that i may have a mild rocker gasket leak looking at it now, so this could be the cause of the new "hot" smell.

Dnk
Be careful not to over tighten the cam cover bolts and i'd personally be changing the cam cover seals for new o/e as they go rock hard over time.

Geo
As DNK has said make sure you don't over tighten them as these will crack the cam covers themselves. Double check them as they tend to come loose over time, not even fingers tight.

Dnk
You usually find they come loose because the rubber seal goes hard and shrinks, this is when you can easily crack the cover because the seal has no give in it. If their the original ones then for the cost involved i'd replace them, on the tt there are also 16 seal washers (8 per side) not sure if the NA motor has these but if it does i'd change those as well and while its all stripped i'd pop a new set of plugs in it. I'd pop some Iridium tipped ones in it then you'll have a much larger mileage before you have to mess about with the inlet manifold etc. Much easier on a tt Edited November 14, 2012 by Dnk (see edit history)
