Harness plates

Wanting to put harnesses is the mr2, i have seen some people use a harness bar that attaches to the top seat belt mounts and runs behind the seats. This would be perfect but I cant find anywhere that sells them in the uk...

So i have been looking at these

i read you drill the firewall at the back, would these plates then be welded onto the engine side of the firewall and the eye bolts bolted through...? Or welded inside the cabin...?

The roll cage I have waiting to go in my MR2 has plates that butt-up against the back of the cabin behind the driver & passenger (i.e. the engine bay firewall).

You then drill through the firewall where the pre-drilled holes in the plates line up, and line up another plate with those holes on the other side of the firewall (in the engine bay) and bolt it through to the cage; so you get as sandwich of: cage plate - firewall - backing plate. I thought for things like this you either bolted a plate through from the other side (as I've described) OR welded something into the cabin. I'm not sure why you'd have a plate and still weld? Although I admit I haven't looked at the link, perhaps I should. :)

I had one fabricated for my MR2, very pleased with the result, if you fancy a trip to Shropshire, I am sure the same guy will do yours for a very reasonable cost.

A harness bar...? Did you get the one that bolts onto the upper seat belt points, or was it welded into place...? Could you pm me how much it cost :)

Yes it is held by the seat belt mounts, and is also attached at the centre, sort of between the 2 seats. The car does not live at my place so cant be more specific, although I can take pics and give you full details on Sunday. As for cost, I guess around £50, I got a "mates rate", as my brother (who owns 50% of the Mr2) got a guy he has known for years to do it. Again I can confirm cost over the weekend, and whether or not he actually needs the car, as he may have kept a pattern of it.
