By the way Reith, what's the job market like over there for Carpenters and Joiners? I've wanted to emigrate ever since I visited for 3 weeks in 2003 and actually got stopped for a while on the road by the film crew whilst they were shooting the third Lord of The Rings somewhere high up in the mountains on the way down to Queenstown. I'll never forget a stretch of road called Valley Pass, (maybe just south of Rotorua?), which was the most amazing, winding mountain-farmland single-track I've ever driven. Just one cliff-edge hairpin after another as it wound it's way right up one side of the valley and down the other. We only passed one pickup truck on the whole road. Driving heaven!

We have a family friend living there who put us up - or put up with us - for a few nights in Christchurch. An absolute must visit holiday destination if you ask me, earthquakes notwithstanding.

The Volcanic Valley was also a fantastic walk. You've got a tropical paradise up north around Paihia and more British weather down south.

The only place around here that comes close to the NZ scenery is Scotland but unfortunately it's all up one end of the island where nobody in their right mind lives! :D

I'd love to go back to New Zealand someday but the money is not yet forthcoming. Perhaps if the club had a whip-round.......... :sly:

I was hoping someone was going to pick up on the intentional mispelling of spelt, but then I remembered Im on the UK forum and had no takers ;)

P.S Thanks for the info in regards to file attachments.

I do prefer 'spelled' actually and think it's better that way, for what it's worth. :)

If you've not seen this guy, check this out!

Like most places around the world, we are going through tough times, with highish unemployment (6.3%) less full time jobs, more part time jobs, relatively low minimum hourly rate ($13.50NZD/6.50quid) lots of skilled workers unable to get jobs, and the extremely high cost of living.

But in saying that, if you have a trade, are good at what you do, and have a good working ethic, there will always be a job for you. Ironically, Christchurch would be your safest bet for guaranteed employment as the rebuild is going to need thousands of skilled people to get it done.

The rest of the country is going through a decline in the new housing market so finding a job will be far harder, though not impossible. What sort of joinery do you specialise in?

Regarding the roads and scenery, you are right, its a beautiful country with some great roads (and luckily some great racetracks too), and I really enjoy living here, although I know by staying here, Im sacrificing a more secure financial future that I could have by moving abroard. I love having a section, with a vege garden, and a pimped out garden shed with HD TV and wi-fi, living right on the south coast of the north island, I have stunning seaviews and sunsets over the snow capped kaikouras (the mountain range at the top of the south island)

The grass isnt always greener on the other side ;)

For the record, so do I. I was just fishing for a bite :)

Prettymuch everything, from windows and doors to staircases to wardrobes, vanity units and French Polished bespoke hand made furniture back when I was an apprentice. My main interest is artistic bowlturning though, purely for pleasure, as it ruins the enjoyment trying to make a living from it.

Infact, here's a guy over in Hawaii who does exactly what I'll be doing in a few years when I can afford the lathe he has. It's made here in England and I've wanted one for the last 15 years since they were first sold. They're nearly £4000 just for the basic machine without many accessories. They do say that patience is a virtue! :D

Hi Neil, Good to hear people are starting to see the benefits of the conversion. While I wouldnt advise it for anyone who needs to pay others to do the work, for people who can weild a spanner competantly, its a great option if you have already owned your supra for years and have poured so much time, money, and skinned knuckes into it than the emotional investment is too great to sell up and buy a TT

Hi mate, I live in the capital city, Wellington. Population-7. That includes myself, my car and the 5 sheep

Hi again Reith, looking forward to a build thread if you're going to put one together. Liked Wellington when I was there, nice harbour, good museum but it ain't called the windy city for nothing. The trip across from there to the South Island was one of the most scenic I've ever done. I know it's alot to ask but it would be good if you could get some picks of the car up with some land marks in the shots, it would bring back some good memories.

Cool, cheers mate. The museum, in or out :D would be good. Also the Beehive, one with the Ferry in the background at the harbour and the view from Mt. Victoria (if you can get up any part of it, I can't remember). That would be choice (do you guys still say that :) )
