Heyrick
Some stats to make you think, sent by a friend: May not be of interest if you drink neither water OR coke! "This is really an eye opener! We all know that water is important but I've never seen it written down like this before. WATER 1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half world population.) 2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger. 3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%. 4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study. 5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. 6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers. 7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page. 8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50%less likely to develop bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day? COKE 1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident. 2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days. 3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china. 4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminium foil dipped in Coca-Cola. 5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion. 6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes. 7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminium foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for sumptuous brown gravy. 8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield. FOR YOUR INFORMATION: 1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis. 2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous Material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials. 3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years! Now the question is, would YOU like a glass of water or coke? Heyrick
and it's most bullshit anyway : http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/cokelore.asp Sorry it's a repost! I've not been ere long. Jake, interesting site, esp. about santa but I couldn't really see anything that disproves the above (unless a tooth is like a steak!). Tbh I was more interested by the water stats but even that could be legend I suppose?

Jake
It is interesting. I enjoy urban legends and like finding out if they're they're true or not. It's surprising the amount of things we all believe to be true that actually aren't. Like the one about the rude names in Captain Pugwash (Seaman Staines, Roger the Cabinboy, etc), lots of folks claim they remember those names in the TV program but actually they never were. Kopite
well there's an argument against most things these days - like 3 tins of salmon a year increases the risk of cancer by a hell of a lot, i ignore it all these days. i've stopped drinkin fizzy drinks for a while now (stella at the weekend not included of course ) and drink a load of water instead - i've deffo felt a little bit better for it, of course it could all be psychological because i'm a bit in the head

Branners
Anyone watch Mythbusters on Discovery - They dis-spelled most of these on the show. yep, I saw that one. The only thing it seemed to do well was restore chrome bumpers when rubbed with aluminium foil. Mythbusters is a great programme, the stuff they blow up is just amazing. Did you see the one with the dead pig in a corvette? JB
Chase
I did - It was a bit sick though. Not something I'd like to see again while eating I remember the first one I saw where they strapped some rocket motors to the roof of a car to check out the myth of the guy who supposedly did a similar thing and drove into a mountain side and disintegrated. Branners
and the myth about the guy on a portaloo smoking a fag. They did prove its possible to polevault a car if the prop shaft breaks and hits a large pot hole...that was fun. JB
