Wez
Hey All, When travelling at low speed and turning fairly sharply there is a real groaning sound for the steering, like its in pain Any ideas, there is plenty of fluid in the PS tank. When driving around at normal speeds making normal steering adjustments its fine as far as I can tell, it doesn't do it when stationary, only when moving slowly. Wez
Was just thinking, dangerous I know but could this possibly be suspension related noise rather than power steering?
AlexM
I'm actually getting the same noise at the moment, only really notice it when I leave for work in the morning. No help at all I know, but hopefully someone else will be.

Silvs
Hmmm sorry to be the one that comes in with a stupid answer (again) but i got this noise when it was cold and at low speeds. i just pumped the tyres up correctly and now its silent
ellis
Check the fluid level first. After that you're looking at a FUBARed pump (pretty common on these girls). Mine started to groan a while back but a fluid top up did the job. Check the colour too - might need a change. If it's not fluid or the pump - seized (seizing) caliper? Another common complaint. Its not braking related, the power steering fluid is topped up and if it was the pump wouldnt it also do it at standstill? This is only happening at very low speed when turning sharply. Kilps
This is only happening at very low speed when turning sharply. Have you checked your front arch liners? One of mine has dropped down and rubs on the tyre at/near full steering lock, because it isn't screwed together properly. I don't get any noise when stationary because the tyre isn't turning and don't get any noise at high speed because I can't turn the wheels far enough to make contact. Like you say, only under heavy steering, which is only possible at low speeds. It's next on the list of things to fix because it's f#cking annoying and an easy fix! Edit: All fixed now... annoying rubbing noise all gone Edited April 22, 2011 by Kilps (see edit history)
Wez
FIXED: turns out it was nothing to do with the power steering, the front brake dust covers were rubbing when turning
