I've just renewed my insurance and after trying Sky, LWIB, Adrian Flux, and a few comparison sites, APlan came back with a fully comp, like for like mod replacement, £350 excess, no mileage limit, 5 years prot NCB, for £610 all in. That was £75 cheaper then the next closest so I've grabbed it...

Never heard a good word about A-Plan so I'm surprised. Have you checked on the policy itself rather than just picking the cheapest insurance simply because it was cheap?

A-Plan wouldn't insure me for any less than £5k.

Unfortunately performance vehicle insuring has three demons:

A)Bad and lacking databases. You'll quote on a MKIV Supra and they give you a price for a Supra with a 2995cc engine. Guess they thought you wanted an MKIII.

B)The lack of experience by their reps and under-writers. They ask you if the Supra is a "FI or SZ". I guess they mean fuel injected. Apparently they think some MKIV were not fuel injected, and additionally can only be SZ - not RZ or GZ turbos.

C)The overall bane of insurance companies which is inconsistency. You quote the same identical thing to ten different insurers. Two give wildly varying prices. Three of them won't cover it. Four want an absurd cost you wouldn't pay for a Ferrari Enzo. And the last one doesn't know what a Supra is.

The best insurer is the one that looks at your situation and offers a comprehensive package at an affordable (relative, but obviously some prices are ludicrous) cost.

But because of the three given examples above, achieving that is a long and ardous process.

My advice..move to America. Yank insurers don't expect you to give your left nut just to have a nice weekend car.

I have no problems with LWIB, they know exactly what my car is including all its mods and have covered it on an agreed value policy for a very good price :)
