Rob
Prior to my brake refurb, I had quite noticeable judder under braking, then the car was off the road for months while I fanny'd around with it, rebuilding the brakes. Finally bought a tax disk last month and started driving it again, no surprises, it still had quite a noticable judder. I presumed it would be the rear discs, as it was a rear caliper than jammed on back in January, and I can't feel the judder under very light braking (i.e. the rear disks wouldn't be biting yet) Anyway, cut a long story, I order some discs through CJs contact, and lo and behold driving home tonight, absolutely no judder under light braking , heavy braking, emergency stops, nothing at all except normal braking. How can this be? I'm going to cancel the order tomorrrow, or put it on hold at least until I can find a reason not to change the discs? Anyone experienced this before? hadyn
Sounds like warped discs?
Rob
Yeah thanks for that. Sorry to jump down your throat, but I'm stretching out for something more here.
Chris Wilson
The rust build up granulates the surface, the first heavy braking has the pads scouring the discs and removing any deposits and sometimes even high spots. They may well stay OK now, so *MAYBE* no need for new discs.
Lazarus
I had the same thing fella, turned out to be the rear disc's, took them off and laid them on a surface table, they were warped (this was my second set of rears too), got pissed off with the j-specs at this point (been through 4 sets of discs in 18 months, 2 front, 2 rear) and upgraded to UK's. Exactly the same symptoms as you have now, only felt under normal braking. Light braking felt nothing (Because of bias?), heavy braking felt nothing (feck no's why )

Rob
The thing is the brakes juddered under normal braking, and REALLY juddered under heavy braking, I could feel the pedal pulsing, but to just disappear overnight. I wondered if the caliper on the warped disc had seized, then I would no longer feel the vibration because the disc wasn't being touched, but the cars only done 300 miles since the full brake refurb. I can't imagine the caliper would stick. I've cancelled the order on the discs for now.
Rob
BTW, CJ's man was £40 cheaper on the pair of rear discs, but add in £15 postage, still better than a poke in the eye.
