Disaster!!

Braked for pedestrian crossing where someone was killed a few months ago, so always very careful there now, when lights went red. Had just come to a stop, when I was hit from behind.

Rear bodykit badly damaged, and a dent in the panel by the petrol cap. Don't think any other damage. Shows the strength of the Supra, as the other car was a Merc (C class I think) and the front was mangled.

Took pics of incident (can't attach yet) and got the police to attend as I was rather shaken up, but am OK. Hopefully I have a witness that he drove into the back of me. He said it was all his fault, but did not comment on the police report form.

I've now got to inform Sky, so I guess a test of the club insurance scheme - hope it goes OK

Any idea on cost of a replacement J-spec Toyota factory bodykit rear bumper?. Also, how easy is it to match 9 year old green metallic paint (quite rare colour)

J

Sorry to hear that! Same happened to me last year. Wasn't too bad, some scratches and a broken numberplate. The clio that hit me was a lot worse off LOL!

Didn't cost me anything at all, his insurance paid for everything. You should be OK as well.

Thanks for the kind replies. :thanks: Agreed that at least no one injured. They guy was really nice and apologetic and called the police as he could see I was shaken up.

Have spoken to Sky, and need to phone some more people. Sky said that I should be fine for curtesy car for as long as I need it, that they reckon they'll recover all the costs, including my excess, and agreed that I need to get the car checked by a performance car specialist and not some 'preferred' garage. Gonna get a quote on Saturday from a place I use in Bath, who have recommended a top dollar bodywork guy (matching paint a speciality).

On a plus side, a bonus was that I missed an hour of a really dull meeting!! :D

You just KNOW that when you're in the courtesy car you will draw up at the lights no end of times with porkers and lambos next to you, just when you needed to be in the Supe! Anyway sorry to hear of your misfortune, lucky it could have been a lot worse. I am sure you will be back on the road in no time.

If it's a rear impact then 95% of the time it's the fault of the person that's hit you. The person behind you has to maintain enough distance/concentration in case you have to do an emergency stop. Has happened to me twice.

Take some time off work if you don't feel too good. Your company can claim it back from the other party if they wish.

Make sure you get your chassis checked out properly. You can have a look on the roof, rear quarters for creases and check the door gap to see if it's tighter. Whiplash may not be felt straight away so bear that in mind

PM me if you have any probs and i'll try to help.

I'm sure the club will be interested to hear how Sky perform on this, so keep us informed. From the sounds of it they are doing pretty good so far.

Sorry to hear about the smash though, it's always horrible when your property is damaged.

Yep, I will treat this as test case for Sky. So far so good, just hope the other guy admits fault and it's a 100% payout. Need to check whether my premium goes up for next year, even though my no claims would be unaffected. hmmm another way insurance companies get you.

Anyone know the best way to get replacement factory rear bumper/valance/body kit?

Cheers mate, hopefully no ill effects.

Have already told garage about checking chasis, rear suspension etc - that's why I didn't want a 'preferred' garage to have the car!!

  • 4 weeks later...

Haven't been able to post updates due to work, and to be honest not really anything to report...until now

I haven't needed a replacement car, as I've been working away, until this week, so have contacted the insurance co (Sky use Ensign) and was 'phoned yesterday by a car hire place saying that the repairs had been authorised and that they would drop a car at the garage for me today.

Just 'phoned Ensign to check all this and have been told that their technicians have classed it as a Cat C total loss!! The quote from Toyota was in excess of £4K, and included chassis jig plus all the parts, paint, labour etc. I have a guaranteed value from Sky for £12K and have just phone them asking them to check what is happening. I want to stress that no-one is messing me about and have been very co-operative.

Any suggestions on why this may be a write-off and what I am best to do??

cheers (and a bit stunned at the mo)
