Jake
What plugs did you fit? What gap are they set to?
mikeyh
i fitted ngk pfr6j-11 they are pre gapped to 1.
Jake
I've never heard of those plugs on here before. How dd you come to be using those? For BPU-ish spec* a lot of us use NGK BCPR7ES gapped to 0.85 (+/- 0.10) * what spec/mods/boost level do you have?
mikeyh
gbh motorsport who replaced the engine told me to use them.at the moment im running full decat, hks fcon v,blitz boost controller but disconected at the mo for warranty reasons so running stock boost.uprated fuel pump. ihad bcpr7es in before these but still the same problem
Steve
How old were the plugs that were in there before?
mikeyh
they had done around 150 miles do you think it could be a dodgy map as i had a piston go down on the last engine really cant afford to have it happen again
Guest Terry S
Not sure on the plug you have but it sounds like a warmer grade which wont help.
Steve
I would go back to the other spark plugs, never heard of the others you have. Get them gapped at 0.85 aswell.
Nic
I would try a cooler grade of plug to start with. Also when you change the plugs, check the condition of the connectors to the coil packs, the plastic of these becomes brittle and can crack, which can cause a poor connection. terribleturner
Mike a quick question as i think i have the same problem. Does this happen everytime or on the odd occasion??
mikeyh
it more or less does it all the time some times it doesnt but its probably just that i dont feel it as much due to hard acceleration.i think ive found my problem though i borrowed a coil pack off of somebody changed the first to and went up the rd,this made it alot better but not perfect.i then removed the following four coils finding cracks in all of them. does any one have a good set for sale on here or any ideas where i can get hold of some cheers. also how much roughly
JohnA
were these cracks on the coils themselves, or the rubber 'boots'?
mikeyh
they begin on the corners where the coils are secured to the rail and continue down the side of the coil!
JohnA
ouch. I'd first try some of the companies in the States, as these are small items to ship. We had a thread recently with a few web addresses.
CJ
Is it the actual coil packs you are looking for or the small plastic connectors? if it is the coil packs themselves, I have a set for sale. PM if interested.
