Guest Sed
Hi Guys Newbie ish here, been a member for a while, but not posted anything before and now I need your help? I went out to my car last night (94 mkiv na) to find 2 or 3 patches of oil on the ground around both passenger wheels, had a look behind the wheels (brakes-suspension etc.) and its completely clean, but the wheel arches are covered in this black oil, have I picked this up somewhere or is it likley to be leaking from my car???? Im a bit worried about driving it and its my everyday car, any thoughts would be appreciated. p.s, gutted I missed the meet at coldecotte in MK, found out about it the day after, whens the next one??? stevie_b
Hi Sed, welcome to the board! If it was me, I'd get home one evening, give the wheel area a bit of a clean, then park the car on some newspaper. That may give you more of a clue as to what's going on. Obviously this is much easier if you've got a garage you park it in. Someone more technical than me may be along soon.... Jake
That's a strange one, Sed. The fact that both front and rear passenger side wheel arches are covered in oil makes me think it's not something leaking from the car itself. It seems highly unlikely that you've suddenly got two leaks. So unless something is leaking onto the front wheel and subsequently spraying under the car to the rear wheel (in which case there would surely be oil all over the rear) I reckon you must have picked it up from an external source. Guest VESPA
Im a bit worried about driving it and its my everyday car, any thoughts would be appreciated. I'd check the pipes (power steering) that are visible in the passenger side duct of the front bumper. Have a good feel around in this 'pod' for fluid. not sure a leak here would spread back to the rear though......
Guest Sed
Just checked all accessable area's without taking the wheels off, and i'm pretty sure i've picked it up somewhere along the way, but can't beleive I could possibly have picked up this much oil, I noticed it last night (7-8pm) and its still dripping now, but not as much. There's a clear line in the wheel arches where the oil stops and would suggest it's all come from the tyres, but the tyres are practically bone dry, very confused.... Guest Sed
The shox are bone dry, not a spec of oil on them. Thanx for your thoughts, unless anyone KNOWS where it might have come from (inside the car that is), im now almost certain that i picked it up off my wheels on my way home last night. I drove over the oil patch that my car made (had no choice) and couldn't believe how much of it the tyres picked up and I have just retraced some of my journey and remembered passing a minor accident, there appears to be a load of dust on the road now, i presume to cover an oil spill. Thanks everyone and hope to see some of you at local meets, MK area's.
Terminator
Sounds like pick up to me , but jet wash the wheels and arches just to be sure.
