j_jza80
No turbo conversion on an N/A engine, done properly is cheap. The one I have just done will probably stand the owner around 8K or so I guess. He supplied 90% of the bits so hard to be accurate. I've read though that the 1.6 lump is a development of the 1.6 turbo Mazda engine, and shares exactly the same head, block, crank, bearings, rods and pistons and the turbo lump. The 6 speed boxes from later cars drop straight in too
Chris Wilson
It is and it's a strong engine. Put some decent rods and low compression pistons in one, a late none hydraulic head, a cast iron turbo manifold and a medium frame turbo with integral gate and you have the basis for a pokey old lump. Here's some photos of the one that's just gone out: http://www.chriswilson.tv/mazda/mazda.html http://www.chriswilson.tv/mazda3/mazda.html http://www.chriswilson.tv/mazda11/mazda11.html

Scott
Why not a n/a supra? just asking:) Too lardy & more expensive at a guess. MR2's are just big go-karts.

Lardy yes but will still outcorner most things on the track...with decent rubber, including caterhams/ evo`s/ mr2`s etc:innocent:

Absolutely no chance. You are comparing your experience and technical ability vs the actual ability of a car. It is completely different. An evo can outcorner a Lambo... as an example. MR2 with a track setup VS a Supra with similar setup and same power? Supra wouldn't stand a chance until the silly HP range where the MR2 is just useless (400hp + IMO). bignum
Hmm in theory you should be correct scott but you should be able to put your gran in the evo and she would go around corners quicker than any rwd sportscar, unfortunately it doesn`t work like that,(unless its wet), evo`s and scooby`s just dont work on tarmac at high speed, although as you say it needs a decent driver to get the best out of a supra, its very rewarding when you get it right. Safely Insured
Personally I'd take a well sorted track prepared AW11 Mk1 Mr2 over the MX5 or lardy SW20 Mk2 Mr2.
