stevie_b
Are they a pain to get out? Can be. I'm in the process of taking my rears out, and they're glued in. Judging by other posts on the BBS, this is true for a lot of JSpecs.
Mace
Might leave the rears alone for now then, as its the front passenger thats had it... what size are they? 6''?
SupraStar 3000
I must have been lucky because my JSpec had originals in the rear which poped out no problems. Rears are easy to find replacements but the front are tricky due to the air box and magnet size.
stevie_b
It's worth a look though. The mesh grille just pops off (prise it off gently with a bladed screwdriver). Undo the screws that you see, and if you're lucky, the speaker will pop out. If not, it means they've glued the bugger in, and it won't go anywhere without more "persuasion". I've seen a thread somewhere with a photo of a rear speaker out: should give you a good idea of what's involved. I haven't had to touch the fronts yet, but I've heard these are no easier to work with (I think they're built into the door, not just screwed onto it). Someone may be along shortly to correct me.... Mace
Might be less damaging just to take the door card off and see what ive got... i'll hava a go
SupraStar 3000
yes, the fronts have a little plastic air box with built in tweeter which make removing the wire and speaker difficult, but not impossible. Take the plastic air box with you when you go to buy your new fronts so you can check they fit correctly
supRo
Front speakers are 4". You can stick up to 6.5" using the templates and Full instructions from the thread at the top of the ICE technical section. Door card needs to come off. Rears are 6" - normally just screwed on. Just prise off the rear covers - held on by clips. Use Dyanmat for better sound quality. Cheers, Ro
magicmatty
Excellent thread in "ICE TECHNICAL" in the forums, called front speakers... Details the exact measurement for a new template for speaker mounts. The standard fronts are i think 4", but to uprate, you will have to mess about a bit. Doing mine now, new infinity speakers 6.5", slip in eventually, sound great.... Do a search and "get lost" in the forum...
Supra_Nish
Just a wuick question about the air box everyone mentions. I removed mine when fitting the new front speakers (6.5"). Am i right in assuming it is purely their for the stock speaker, as in a ported box? Or should i really leave the box in for another reason? magicmatty
If your going to replace the stock cr4p for some decent components, Take the Air boxes out and keep them safe for a rainy day...Pop the new speakers in a new bracket - See "Ice Technical" for template, and perhaps dynomat the door inners for an "arguably" better sound
Zed
You've got no choice but to remove the boxes, the 6.5's just wont fit otherwise.
Supra_Nish
You've got no choice but to remove the boxes, the 6.5's just wont fit otherwise. Phew! There i was thinking i was being all clever. But yes, the 6.5" are mounted on mdf rings to the door card and the diff in sound quality is amazing.
