martini
Think it was his calves that were his weak point, But yeah Even the Pro's have there weak area's. Got your PM bud, i'll sort out a nice clean diet for you. Correct, it was his calves. He used to work them daily before each routine (I read). Arnie was (is) the man. I'd love a nice clean diet - I can PM you any specific information that would help you/save you time and also outline my goals if that'd help? Stratty
Arnie was also a pin cushion after jabbing himself full of sh#t. Achieving a good physique really isnt rocket science. Ensure you only consume your carbs around your peri-workout and consume just protein and good fats at other times. As the old saying goes... "abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym"... Agree entirely It always amazes me how dieting/bulking confuses people. It is really not difficult. My advice is spend 3-4 hours on bodybuilding.com and you'll learn so much. Muscle and fitness magazine is also a great resource. And before anyone gets scared, you don't have to be aiming to look like arnie to learn from these resources. They are great for the average joe who wants to lose weight. It really isn't that difficult to understand but there is so much BS trainers and theories about. What geo is saying is 100% correct. Geo
So what your saying is you can build up decent muscles doing cardio if you have the right genetics, but you can't build up muscle with cardio period? I'm confused Most people must just have good genetics then. My shoulders are the same, once a week for me, but I've not got the chemical edge though. If you have good genetics in your legs then yes they will grow to a certain degree. By doing certain cardio routines, if you hammer a bike on the hardest setting there gona grow, if you use the xtrainer they aint gona grow. supra_aero
Matt running and swimming are not "strength" building exercises so by that logic it makes total sense the body will not increase muscle mass in those areas. Instead it will make the muscle more efficient at being used for longer periods of time. In a nutshell, being overweight and fat DOES hamper performance of runners/swimmers so it increases your metabolism if you run/swim on a regular basis to shed that fat away and make you slimmer and lighter and a better more efficient runner/swimmer. Lifting heavy weights is however a strength building exercise. Thus logically it makes total sense that the body will adapt to lifting heavy weights by increasing muscle growth to enable that body part to lift the weights more efficiently. You should be eating a small amount of carbs with every meal, along with good fats and protein. If you eat carbs in and around your pre workout whats going to fuel your body through out the day. True about the abs comment, you can only have them if you diet correclty

Which brings us full cirlce to my point with Claires situation. Instead of lifting 20 sets of 3kg etc, she might as well include that part of the regime in her cardio work out, swimming, boxing. Circuit training is brilliant for some one like Claire. If you feel the burn, you're doing it right.

If you feel the burn, you're doing it right. Well lifting weights will also raise the metabolism for longer periods of time after each workout I believe, as the body repairs broken muscle tissue. For the person who is not running a marathon daily but working out for health and losing weight I'd say weights is better. Only if she has lots of testosterone boosters and loads of protein in her diet will she bulk up btw.

Geo
Hmm I am going to have to check with my peers on that one I always have good carbs with every meal. Although i am in bulking phase at this point so my carbs are through the roof. But for average Joe yeah, small amount of good carbs with every meal is advised. :D

Matt H
well she likes her weights, is it wise to put a pic up on here lol It's o.k if you stick a normal one up! We're not talking Brad 15 who decided to put up one of his bird with her jugs out and wondering why he got a mixed reaction to what his intentions were! Apart from complex carbs in the morning, I dont have any more until my peri-workout where apart from my pre-workout meal, these will be more simple carbs than complex. Also, no carbs before bed. Just good fats. Cottage cheese is my normal choice.
