Bobbeh
Less money than what you'd spend modding your car up like those
Pete
Nice!. How much do you think it would cost to ship the Supra over About 500 quid to ship it. Plus some for someone to organise this. Then add 10% duty.... oh and 17.5% VAT....and don't forget to register it, MOT it, make it road legal changing dials fog lights blah blah.. Bobbeh
I doubt you wouldnt have to pay VAT, its a private sale, just import duty I'd imagine. making it legal.. well thats the same sort stuff the JDM cars go though to be legal here, not really an issue at all is it. Pete
That's an interesting one. So you reckon if I rig someone up to buy a car privately on my behalf in Japan I can avoid the 17.5% VAT?

I would have thought if you went over there, purchased it, in your name, and imported it privately you could bring it here without VAT. Its used goods after all. Bobbeh
Ok, I'll go live there, drive the car for a year or so, then you can buy it from me
toyotasuprauk
I believe if you owned the car for 6 months or more before shipping it into the Uk you dont have to pay any tax on it when you import.
Bobbeh
What, import duty? Or VAT? I dont think VAT is ever applied to stuff imported, thats what import duty is for.

Gaz Walker
Rob, You have to pay VAT and Duty on everything imported, yours or not. The only way round it is if your in the armed forces abroad or you have lived abroad for 12 months (I think). Gaz.
