Offset also makes a massive difference. Get it even slightly wrong and it makes a huge difference when coming out of a corner under power.

.

You think? not my experience, the stock 50 can be moved by a figure of 12 to 38 without ruining the handling on the front and 10 to 40 on the rear. center gravity guy Chris would also back this.

245/45 with a 50 offset would be a very close match to stock, but that's too narrow for the wheel.

255/45 with a 38 offset is getting closer but they are still going to be stretched for a front wheel and will wear terribly.

265/40 is getting towards the right size tyre to use on a front wheel for the wheel width. It'll need a 40 offset which is closer to fitting that width wheel but will likely rub the arch on partial lock.

Interesting Homer. I've heard CW also mention the offset is very very important on the MKIV and I don't question that one bit. But it leads me thinking if my car could be set up to handle better (especially as I'm going to the ring in three weeks time)

So not to hijack the thread but more to get a clarification of what seems to be more people than me wondering about, I hope you can help:

My wheels are 8" wide with a ET of 45. Fronts with 225, no spacer and rear also 8" (stupid dealer who sold me the thing) with 245 and a 20mm spacer.

Take a look here, front wheel:

rear wheel:

Now, the front look to far in but the rear look about right.

My question is, with a 20mm spacer and an ET -5 compared to stock, is my wheel 25mm to far out? Doesnt look like it (might be a bit to far out, but not 25mm)

- I'm not sure, since the stock wheel (EU spec at least) is 9,5" (IIRC), and doesn't that change the offset compared to an 8" wheel?

Same thing front, is my wheel too far in with it being only 8" even though it has an ET of 45?

Basically; how do you compare ET to a stock ET when the wheel you want to compare to stock is of another width than stock?

I have front 10x19 - 265 wide. Rear 11x19 - 305 wide. No problems at all. Full steering lock ect.

Dont remember the offset though.

Full Geo setup has been made, and the car sticks to the road and I am yet the to have the rear step out(unless you want to) in a turn or long bend, even though going very fast..:)

But the roads in denmark and sweden are also quite good.

Thought my ears were burning lol, my track and road wheels are OZ saturn's and the rears are 10" wide and 17" with 275 - 40 - 17 R888 - Fronts are 9" wide and again 17" with 255 - 40 - 17 R888, these are what i ran in these video's.

These are the only 17" wheels i like that will clear Uk brakes without spacers (bolt straight on).

are you running a 40 profile tyre up front due to the width of the tyre James??

Yeh its hard to get tyres in 17" with the width i wanted 275 is the biggest R888 you can get if you want wider then 18" is next.

R888 only do 235 - 40 - 17 and 255 - 40 - 17 for the front i wasent sure they would fit but bought them anyway, not sure if i showed you in germany how little gap there was on the front tyre between the arch, wheels are 42et i think.
