Has anyone ever seen a shuttle launch in person ?

I was lucky enough to be on holiday in ~2000-2003 ish in Florida and while watching the news (as you do on holiday) they said that there would be a launch the following day....Guess where I dragged the wife :D

I was over 10 miles away, could not get any closer as the roads were closed with people everywhere.......

The ground was shaking for a good while...now that is one experience that warrants the word "Awesome".

When holidaying in Florida 1999 looked out of our apartment window across the lake and watched shuttle take off, only had a disposable camera handy so this was the only picture i got, but it was some sight.

The speed it disapears is unbelievable :D

Actually, I found the Florida Today newspaper this afternoon....it was the STS-87 Columbia on 19 Nov 1997 that I got to see and remember it being the first one to do the twist/roll during the ascent.....then it was lost in 2003 over TX :(
