diff cooler? transmission cooler? burst!?

the little cooler in the driver-side wheel arch.. does this break?

What is it?

I noticed a spot of oil on the driveway underneath it, and it's all a bit gungy just below it kind of looks like oily-mud. Pictures are on my camera but I'm out at an office in Leeds at the mo.

After driving to Leeds just now (50 miles), I touched the cooler and it wasn't even slightly warm.

Should I be worried?

cheers,

Carl

It's the diff cooler, they seem to fall apart and acquire random holes in the pipes, remove and bypass or fit a Mocal / Toyota one back in there.

This is hidden behind the plastic trim:

Crikey! Thanks Michael. I would guess that's what's happened to mine!

Am I going to be safe driving the car back from Leeds and over to blackpool tonight  ?

I presume then that I have lost all oil from the diff? Where is the oil level checked and how is it filled?

Sorry about the onslaught of questions. Most important one is am I safe to drive?

cheers!

leak fixed now thanks to goodyear rubber hoses and Beeston Motor Spares jubilee clips :D

Haven't checked or filled the oil though.

There was a hole in the upper pipe just above the lip. I have absolutely no idea how such a hole could be created as there doesn't appear to be any way a stone could hit it - it's all covered by a plastic shield.

What do these coolers cost from Mr T ?

about £150 apparently. Non-Toyota ones can be had for around £25 apparently, possibly from eBay. Brackets might need to be fabricated though.

One chap on here has done a very smart job on a £20 cooler he bought from his local motor factor.

Forgotten his name though I'm afraid :innocent:
