Digsy
Can anyone tell me whether or not the NA cylinder block has the drillings and tappings to accept the two turbo oil feeds that you would have on the TT? Obviously they will be blocked off if they are there, so knowing whether they have threaded bungs in would be handy, too. TIA.
JustGav
Dunno... but I can compare the two later today at the workshop...and let you know
Digsy
Cheers dude. That would be handy. Pics would be good, too if possible. I'm thinking of fitting oil pressure and oil temperature gauges and I'm trying to find somewhere simple to put the transducers.
Digsy
Bump. Any news, TDax?
Chris Wilson
Curious as to whether the N/A blocks also have piston oil squirters, or provision therefore.
Digsy
Well TDax has got back to me to say that the NA block has the cast pads for the oil feeds, but they are not drilled or tapped. Bummer.
JustGav
From what I've been told... and I could be completely way off base.... The NA does not have the piston squirters, but it does have the grub screws in their place, so it is simply a matter of removing them and replacing them... Please note, this is going off the top of my head and I could be completely wrong... Gav
JustGav
Yup just checked up on supraforums... The TT does have squirters where as the NA doesn't.... Main differences are... 2jz-ge 2jz-gte the cylinder heads are totaly different the turbo block has oil jets http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22260&highlight=2jz-ge+2jz-gte+diff Gav
Digsy
So what other differences are lurking in the NA block in the name of cost-reduction? Kind of makes you wonder whether the NA-T is such a good idea...
Chris Wilson
No big deal to drill and tap the block for the turbo oil drains. Volvo blocks are the same, i have done loads, just drill and tap and screw in the fitting ;-) Oil squirters sound dead straightforward. the N/A won't have the piston crown heat issues of the TT, no squirters will give less oil consumption, maybe even lower the emissions. BROARDSIDE
i assume you could drill the hole then put a pen magnet in to pic up the swarf its an ideia
Whitesupraboy2
What, in the main gallery, after the filter (I assume that's where they are anyway)? Lordy How do you stop swarf getting in? supraforums have a whole thread on how to do this as ive read it and they say use vasoline and stop every 2 or so seconds to clean off then use something with magnet on end to pic up bits u may of missed. and some other tips. In the NA section on supra forums theres a full guide how to do the NA-T conversion

Volvo blocks are the same, i have done loads, just drill and tap and screw in the fitting ;-) Like Chris said tapping in a flange to support the oil return line is very simple. Infact when i did my NA-TT swap i used the NA's oil pan on the TT engine (because the TT engine was off an Aristo) and just fitted a flange to accept the oil return line. Chris Wilson
I was assuming the engine would be stripped and down to a bare block when the machining was done. Certainly drilling holes into oilways on an assembled unit is out of the question!

garethr
If you are talking about a turbo conversion to an N/A, I believe (from researching the tubo conversions for the 2JZ-GE in the SC300) that the turbo oil feed is taken from the bolt next to the oil filter, which can be removed, then drilled and tapped. The return goes to the boss above the sump. On the SC you have to drop the subframe to remove the sump so that you can clear the swarf. EDIT: Found the forum thread: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24570&page=2&pp=15 From a later post in that thread: "..... you didn't have to drop the pan... All you had to do was lower it, move it back slightly and put a trash bag over it so that the filings don't get in it."
